Now that irresponsible opportunists have brought many of the misled to Washington, we can begin to contemplate what makes bigotry so appealing. Surely, being able to exclude is one of the great joys of the species because it can give a grand identity to the average person.
That identity as one of the elect made the red glow in Southern white necks. They felt part of a civilization in which they were looked down upon until they put on their costumes, screamed loudly at mob gatherings and committed acts of violence.
While bigotry is as American as apple pie, its shelf life is now rather short. The easily dismissed lies that Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich have used to fire up the true believers will not work. After race-baiting as clearly as they could on the issue of a proposed Islamic center near Ground Zero, all of them have attempted to "clarify" what they actually meant.
The reason that opportunists from the right have had to tread carefully is that nobody today desires to be called a racist. And so they've reframed their Islamophobia as an issue of constitutional rights. This is a variation on the purportedly genteel Southern racists who claimed that the real issue during the civil rights movement was not ethnic exclusion, but the rights of states.

Not in America, they won't. The left may be crazy, but they aren't suicidal.
If we're ever going to duke it out with them and get this crap settled once and for all, we'll have to go after them. They're very adept at ripping out the foundation blocks of our republic, but they suck at real confrontation.
Stanley Crouch, Wesley Mouch?
A progressive race hustling fool opens his wide, stinky mouth to ‘enlighten’ US: “Now that irresponsible opportunists have brought many of the misled to Washington, we can begin to contemplate what makes bigotry so appealing.” Not even poor old Al Sharptoon should be portrayed with such irrational liberal sluttery.
Right you are, but it really started way back in Woodrow Wilson's time. The destruction just ramped up more and more from there.
It's now time to stop it, and reverse their nearly 100 years of treason.
Nicely done!!
I’m guessing he wrote this before the rally imagining what would happen and now that it is published he looks lke a fool!
I hate a Zotus Interruptus.
So what is way you want the word referred to?
Crouch has been doing this for years.
Hard to believe someone would have to ask but okay, I'll play along.
Try NOT AT ALL.
So an honest question asked without rancor or malice must be stifled?
Fine.
I swear, I have listened to this garbage for nearly six decades. It's like saying people in Massachusetts support the burning or drowning of witches. I am confident that the South will continue to be the punching bag of Northeast liberals until this country ceases to exist.
Stanley Crouch cannot steal America’s soul, nor can any of his hate-hustler pals.
Free Republic does not advocate or condone racism, violence, rebellion, secession, or an overthrow of the government.Or is it the sentence copied below the one which is challenging your comprehension skills?
Please: NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racism or violence in posts. The sentence above is located right below the little button you pushed labeled "Post", the same button you used to post your racist comment.
Now before you make another snarky response again, think carefully on whether you value your posting privileges here.
Or not.
Your call.
Notice that Crouch had nothing to say about the
black preachers in attendance at the rally. Hmmm....
When it comes to the proposed NYC Islamic “cultural
center” Crouch and the rest of the libtards love
to wave the First Amendment in front of our col-
lective faces. I would assume that Stanley and the
rest of his ilk would also support the right of
the KKK to build a similar center across the street
from any local NAACP office. Further, I would assume
that on First Amendment grounds Mr Crouch opposes
free speech and assembly restictions on anti-abortion
protesters.
They are finished, the Dems have been neutered and Bob Beckel knows it. While it was a beautiful thing to behold and hear his defeat, it was also pitiful in that they know what they have done to bring all this on themselves, yet they can't stop what is happening now.
Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. No white jazz musician in those days came close to being associated with jazz music as these two I mentioned.
I was lucky to have been able to see Louis Armstrong live with his Hot Five in the mid 60s. No doubt he was the father of jazz, but not taking anything away from him, most critics believe jazz had a multi-racial origin.
I can’t believe that I that used to know this person and respect him.Yuck
Stanley Crouch is a famous writer and a winner of the MacArthur genius grant. I used to know him.
I would bet Mr. Crouch didn't watch one milisecond of the rally. Instead, he reported on it using the Cliffs Notes that were written decades before it even happened.
