Visalia, Calif. A Mormon church official was shot dead between services on Sunday, and less than an hour later, the man suspected of the crime also died after a shootout with police.
Clay Sannar, 42, a lay bishop with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Visalia, southeast of Fresno, died after being shot in his office, said Visalia police chief Colleen Mestas.
Soon after the first shooting, a caller identified himself to police as the shooter. Police responded, and there was a confrontation with several shots exchanged, said Mestas.
The suspect was hit multiple times. He was taken to nearby Kaweah Delta Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He has not been identified yet. No officers were injured, Mestas said.
Tulare County sheriffs deputies are taking over the investigation of the shootout involving the police officers. The sheriffs department did not immediately return calls for comment.
Visalia police continue to investigate Sannars shooting, but have not identified a motive.

Sorry for the dup post - my wi fi dropped mid-post
I just happened to have been on this thread and read each of the comments prior to their removal.
Every one of them had the word "f@g" in them. I suspect that if the word "homosexual" had been in there instead, they may not have been deleted. "F@g is not an appropriate word; especially since homosexual references are not really appropriate - at least yet - in this case.
Yep. They never should have been let out onto the streets.
That’s shocking.
The day after Beck, some Californian decides to murder a Mormon. I wonder how many months it will take before a single dullard in the press finally uses the term “hate crime.”
Tragic. His poor family.
>>Sounds like the FR Religion Forum these days...magritte<<
Ooooo, you beat me to it.
Stop the H8!
Homo on homo crimes are some of the most gruesome crimes you can imagine. They don't just kill each other. They practically dismember each other. If this was a homo vs. Christ thing, this one was mild for a homo.
>>Why on earth have 4 comments been deleted from this thread?<<
LOLOL! That’s rhetorical, right?
Yup. Coming up on 24 hours and it's still "name witheld."
Shooting the guy and then dragging him out in a public area just to shoot him in the face (ruining the possibility of an open casket) is very personal.
But a witness said the perp "asked to see a leader" of the congregation, then shot that "leader." If it was personal, he'd have asked for the guy by name.
I’m betting the Moderators will need 50 gallons of bleach and a pressure washer before this thread is done.
>>Are you (doohickey) and magritte really trying to equate the theological disagreements on the RF with murder and terrorism?<<
Have you ever hung out in the Religion Forum. I’ve seen people get downright vile there.
And our enemies have it right there for all to see. Do you think only FReepers see those threads? Do you know that people with 1. an agenda and 2. mental instability, can see those posts too?
So while you dance around “theological disagreements”, I’m going to tell you now, that those who’s brain chemicals are not sending synapses in the right directions, see them differently.
We all need to think before we post.
So?
Political correctness was designed to silence anyone from speaking out against a left wing special interest group or it's agenda. Since when is FR politically correct?
What's wrong with calling them fags? That term has been used for decades. Does FR have a speech Czar, too?
If those posts were pulled because people used the term "fag", I'm very disappointed.
13 has that word and has not been swept.
The posts weren’t removed because they were politically uncorrect.
But because they were RELIGIOUSLY incorrect.
The Religion Moderator is lurking here - removing any anti-Mormon replies.
I am suprized this is still in “News” and not “Religion”.
Called in at 12:37 PDT according to the Visalia newspaper.....still awaiting ID on the perp, almost 21 hours later.

I don't know what you mean by personal. Are you saying the guy was in a relationship with the perp? The perp came asking for a leader or bishop. He didn't ask for a particular leader.
In my opinion he just wanted to kill a Mormon leader. While we many not agree with what Mormon leaders teach we should realize that they try to be good people, they give their time free of charge and it is often a lot of time. Say what you want about Mormons but they are actively dedicated to God. They helped pass Prop. 8, along with the Catholics and several other church groups. I may not agree with Catholic teaching but I sure appreciate the work of the good Catholics and Mormons who helped pass this good proposition.
I don't think Freepers need to be belittling our allies.
No religious workers deserves this kind of action.
