BOSTON, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- The Salvation Army of Massachusetts has decided to stop getting money from United Way, setting up its own workplace fund drives instead.
Major William Bode sent an e-mail message to United Way Friday, the Boston Globe reported. He discussed the relationship with Michael Durkin, president of United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley over lunch Thursday.
"Every year for the last three years I have communicated with the United Way saying our allocation is going down and I'm very much concerned about that,'' Bode said. "Our advisory board and board of directors had to look at that and say, 'What is happening with the relationship?'"
United Way functions as an umbrella group, collecting donations and passing the money on to other non-profit groups. Some contributions are earmarked for specific organizations.
Durkin said he hopes to revive the relationship between the two groups.
"Our partnership is too strong to end on an e-mail,'' he said.
The Salvation Army's best-known fundraising effort is its Christmastime appeal. As a United Way beneficiary, the group could not engage in its own workplace drives.
“...Salvation Army is an organization that funds abortions...”

Can you back that up?
Or are you just spouting off?
This was taken from Life Decisions International website:
The Boycott List (see above) includes a section called Dishonorable Mention, which lists seemingly innocuous nonprofit organizations that are involved with Planned Parenthood or otherwise active in the Culture of Death. Among the groups included are Outward Bound West, American Automobile Association (AAA), Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Phil Foundation, Lions Clubs, American Cancer Society, Easter Seals, Boys & Girls Clubs, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Camp Fire, Girls Inc., Girl Scouts, Kiwanis Clubs, March of Dimes, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Rotary Clubs, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, The Salvation Army, YWCA, America Gives Back (formerly [American] Idol Gives Back), YMCA, American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), American Diabetes Association. Involvement ranges from donating funds to pro-abortion groups (or allowing affiliates to do so), supporting anti-life causes, allowing pro-abortion groups access to membership, adopting an official pro-abortion policy position, and so forth.”
Very vague, I have no idea what the possible connection might be. Again, I just have difficulty believing the SA is actively supporting PP unless I see proof positive.
I worked with the SA during a number of disasters and I can tell you that they are the first on the scene, they are carrying food and supplies and that they are the hardest working people I have ever seen. Unbelievable work ethic.
In World War II, they would pull up to the front lines during the battle of the Bulge, open up the back of the truck and there would be hot donuts and coffee for all.
The German lines were only a half mile or so away and our units were constantly being bombarded by artillery and mortars. Didn’t bother them a bit.
The Red Cross, on the other hand, was a 20 or 30 mile ride behind the lines.
Give to SA. Someday they will be in your community helping out during a disaster. Man, they are good.
And don’t get me started on UW. They have already received too much of my money through corporate extortion. Never again.
I don’t believe that the SA supports abortion. No way, no how.
I agree. It just sounds so completely out of character for a wonderful ministry.
I’ve worked with some of these people and being pro-abortion is just not possible.
I live in Greene County, Ohio (mostly Conservative). United Way is run out of Montgomery County (mostly Liberal city of Dayton). We used to have United Way in Greene County, but it was combined with Montgomery County. I did some research back in the early 90’s when I ran them off. At the United Way Meeting, I asked, “How much does United Way collect in Greene County?” The rep said he didn’t have the number in front of him, to which I replied, “It’s about $2 million.” He said that was about right. Then I asked, “How much money is allocated for Greene Counth organizations?” He didn’t have an answer for that, so I said, “It’s about $600,000.” He said that was about right. He then asked me if I had kids and had I ever taken them to Children’s Hospital in Montgomery County. I said “yes.” He said, “See this guy gets a benefit from United Way’s allocation to Childrens.” I replied, “When I took my kids to Childrens and they found out I had health care through Aetna, every fricking doctor in that damn hospital read my childs chart and sent me a bill - it took me 2 years to straighten it all out. I would have to say, I received no benefit from your sucking money out of Greene County for your pet programs in Montgomery County.” People were leaving the meeting after that, and United Way got no contributions from my office after that.
Unless you are in on the allocations, I would say there is no way to find out how United Way awards the funds. I wouldn’t think their records are open to the public, although I don’t know what kind of reporting they have to do to maintain their status.
I STOPPED trusting united way after their handling of money donated during the 911 catastrophe.
United Way runs an extortion racket. They get management to lean on workers to give a ‘suggested’ contribution.
I haven’t supported UW since I read of a low level teller at an S&L in Maryland getting sacked for refusing to pay up. That would probably have been back in the 70s, perhaps a little later.
I’ve only worked at one company that participated in the shakedown. If you didn’t want to contribute, you had to fill out a form and turn it in to a designated senior manager. I knew it was a career limiting move when I did so.
If they had any integrity, they’d run it like the CFC.
Some United Ways support homosexuality. Same thing.
I’m glad the SA is breaking with United Way. SA shouldn’t have anything to do with an outfit that funds abortions.
****And dont get me started on UW. They have already received too much of my money through corporate extortion. Never again.****
The extortion is then imposed on the employees. It was strongly suggested, by my manager, that I sign up for a UW *contribution*. As a struggling single parent, that was a tough decision. But I still refused on the basis that I needed the money I earned - more than those anonymous beggars.
One time at work a group agreed to give the Salvation Army a donation during the United Way drive from their coffee fund, 6 months later U.W. sent the check back and asked them to change it to the Red Cross. Needless to say, they tore the check up.
Damn, does that mean if I get a flat tire a baby gets off'd? Or, something?

Wagglebee, do you know if the above is correct?
“Salvation Army is an organization that funds abortions. “
?????? Where do you get that info?
I don’t know about funding abortion, but it does seem that the Salvation Army in India accepts abortion for life of the mother, rape AND for fetal deformities:

The American position seems different:

The United Way of course famously dropped the Boy Scouts because they won’t let known homosexuals camp overnight with boys.
Or are you just spouting off?
I looked to the bottom of the thread and there been no response from this "topher." He was spouting off and maliciously, too.
