Democrats privately fear House prospects worsening
Politico ^ | 8/25/10 9:07 PM EDT | JIM VANDEHEI

Top Democrats are growing markedly more pessimistic about holding the House, privately conceding that the summertime economic and political recovery they were banking on will not likely materialize by Election Day.

In conversations with more than two dozen party insiders, most of whom requested anonymity to speak candidly about the state of play, Democrats in and out of Washington say they are increasingly alarmed about the economic and polling data they have seen in recent weeks

They no longer believe the jobs and housing markets will recover – or that anything resembling the White House’s promise of a “recovery summer” is under way. They are even more concerned by indications that House Democrats once considered safe – such as Rep. Betty Sutton, who occupies an Ohio seat that President Barack Obama won with 57 percent of the vote in 2008 – are in real trouble.

...I don't see November as a lock...the Dems still have the $20 billion in BP shakedown money in czar Fineman's control...they can buy a lot of influence with that kind of slush...if we get complacent; we're going to be in for a nasty surprise.

You are correct. The tyrants will kill the country to maintain control.

Last year, a democrat concerned about a repeat of 1994 asked Obama what he planned to do about it. Obama stated that the difference between ‘94 and ‘10 was the the dems had him this time. He was absolutely right, though I’m sure not in the way he intended.

“They no longer believe the jobs and housing markets will recover – or that anything resembling the White House’s promise of a “recovery summer” is under way.”

It’s bad enough they were trying to foist this swill on the American public. It’s even worse that they actually believed their own lies. And sweet justice that it will end up costing them plenty in November.

Volunteer. Make the calls. Prep the mailings. Pound the pavement.

And infiltrate.

God, I hope so.

But remember, the Democrats have one huge advantage going into November.

They get to run against Republicans.

If memory serves it was an Arkansas Democrat who after hearing this pep talk from the President announced the next day he would not seek reelection.

Remember the 1980 election when everyone thought it was too close to call? And it actually turned into a major rout for one Ronald Reagan?

The 2010 elections are essentially a referendum on President Obama’s economic policies and at the current rate it’s going, the Democrats are going to be routed in the House and might even lose the Senate.

Where are all of the zerocare dims who claimed they were not afraid to lose their seats in order to fix the broken hc system? Reality bites your ass sometimes, especially when you have no saleable job skills that anyone wants or needs.

They’ve stolen elections before, so this could be a ploy to encourage complacency in GOP/conservative voters. The only poll that counts is on Nov. 2.

Hey Dems, when you fail to fix the structural problem with established entitlement programs (Social security, Medicare, etc), add on another entitlement (Obama Care), add burdensome regulations, fail to curtail other out-of-control structural spending, and plan on raising taxes starting January 1st, just wtf did you think was gonna happen to the economy and to Americas confidence in you guys? Did you guys not take economics your junior year of high school.

Add this to the social issues including immigration, the Mosque debate, the disastrous foreign policy (most specifically naming withdrawal dates in both Iraq and Afghanistan), it’s really not a shock the polls don’t look that good for you guys. Actually, I’m shocked they aren’t worse.

Most of your policies are created in some fantasy la-la land as far as I can see. They look, feel, and sound good especially in some lecture hall at UC Berkeley but, They Don’t Work in the Real world!!!!

Bullshit! They know exactly what they are doing and why they are doing it. And they are happy with the results. They are just pacifying the sheep until the slaughterhouse is completed.

...my fear exactly!...plus, if they lose a close race they have the money to legally challenge it...that’s why we must win decisively.

Replace the incumbent obama butt kisser steve cohen, US 9TH district TN with the Conservative black business woman Charlotte Bergmann http://www.bergmann4congress.com/ she took 61% of the GOP primary vote over 2 white guys. So much for racisim...we are talking Memphis, TN.

BTW cohen says he votes like a black woman, but won’t debate this conservative black woman. Thinks 0 is like Jesus a community organizer...cohen is a secular Jew.

He has a BIG war chest

And worse, unlike during the Reagan Years, the "principled conservatives" are a group counting on being disappointed.

If the Republicans win and win decisively, the only group more disappointed than the RATS will be the "principled conservatives" here on FR.

I don't understand the "so much for racism" part. If I remember correctly, that is a black-dominated district; so, isn't it racist that she won?

Only if the majority of Republican primary voters were black, and who really thinks that?
