So Alan Simpson, the co-chair of Obama's deficit commission called Social Security a cow with 310 tits, and then he had to apologize and grovel to the AARP and now Paul Krugman is calling on him to be fired.

If there were any doubt that the commission were going to be pointless that's been removed.

If there is a deficit crisis, then it has to be addressed by talking about entitlements, and if you can't talk about entitlements (in a colorful manner) without having to apologize to seniors, then the whole exercise is pointless.

It's political correctness, except that while that normally applies to someone going off-script regarding minorities or women, this time it's about elders. Anyway, the pernicious aspect of a politically correct way of talking is that it disqualifies people from even having a conversation, which is what's happened now.

Hopefully the deficit crisis is a myth.

I have watched Alan Simpson for a long time. He seems like a fairly intelligent guy, but one addicted to spurting out little corn-pone epigrams rather than confront opponents or problems. He doesn't seem to realize that there is no talisman or mantra that will work against the armies of professional PC offense-takers that infest our society. Maybe he can't help it, maybe it's some sort of down-home Tourette Syndrome.

I suspect that a large percentage of seniors aren't offended by someone mentioning that a milk cow has tits.

Someone being personally offended by this statement has to want to be offended by it. I doubt these liberals can even articulate exactly why the comment offends them.

I'm offended by what Social Security has become. Can we get rid of the offensive Social Security program instead of the guy using colorful metaphors to describe it?

This commission was established to give us the VAT tax and much to our chagrin, Simpson’s euphemisms probably won’t stop that. Damn shame that.

My eldest sister married a dairy farmer whose farm was in central New York. My BIL emphasized that the protrusions from a cows udder were teats, and were pronounced with a long ‘e’ sound.
