OK, I was at a late dinner with a person who calls themselves a extreme lib.
She asked my thoughts on what Obozo has done so far? I was taken back that she asked me.
I said i disagreed with everything he did. Then she says, “ What do you want him to do! Its only been 20 some months. The economy is so bad its hard to fix”
Did you ask about the deficit going from 200 billion a year under Bush to 200 billion a MONTH under Obama/Reid/Pelosi?
OMG After Bush was in office about a month they started blaming everything on him!!! Obama gets a pass for 20 months? I know one friend of mine said in a Facebook newspaper thread asking what people though about Obama supporting the Ground Zero mosque. My friend wrote that “Obama HAD TO GO” ....and boy did the people attack her!! Saying that the poor guy inherited all of Bush’s problems....even when the subject was about the mosque!!
“I was taken back that she asked me.”
Actually, the phrase is “taken aback.” It has to do with a square-rigged ship sailing close to the wind and the square sails “on the bowline,” meaning they were tied by ropes on the leading edge leading forward to keep the leading edge from curving away from the wind. If the ship turned too close to the wind of the wind shifted forward, the square sails would be blown backwards, creating a very dangerous situation.
Not only would it cause the ship to slow suddenly, it could cause a dismasting because of the sudden shift in pressure and loads on the rig. It would scare the heck out of the officers and crew. The helmsman could be whipped for causing this to happen.
Which is why it is such a great expression.
