Both Imam Rauf and President Obama have earned the right to weigh in as leaders on the building of a cultural center and place of worship near Ground Zero; and they both have a responsibility to do so. President Obama is the leader of the nation that is currently engaged in two wars that followed in the wake of the tragic events of 9/11. It is crucial that this nation's Commander-in-Chief continually remind this nation that those wars are against institutions and organizations that had a hand in the attacks of 9/11, not against Muslims.
As President Obama has said, America is about freedom and democracy--indeed, those wars are purportedly about defending those very ideals--and no one is excluded from those the rights that come with them. In a time in which political leaders too often scour polls, searching for the most politically expedient approach to a controversy, President Obama showed leadership and should be commended for weighing in on this issue. Indeed, it was Obama's responsibility to do so. The White House is arguably the most powerful pulpit in the world, and presidents that have failed to use that pulpit have failed to lead.

There is a Mosque 5 blocks away, there is no need for another one here.
That they refuse to move it indicates they are not at all interested in bringing us together but are looking at the symbolic value of the site
What Obama should have said.
LOL,, yes!!! Obama should keep defending the mosque!! (snicker)
At least the anti-Americans are exposing themselves. Obama has freed them, like Archie Bunker “freed” bigots to go around spouting their crap (not knowing Arch was doing a “parody”). LOL (Take names)
Excellent point!
It is what the Constitution says... but then when has he ever respected that?
Dear Doug Gutherie,
You are a man of zero moral courage.
You have nothing to lose so you support that which will ultimately destroy America for future generations.
Of course you will get a picture with the boy president for a keepsake and be allowed to contine on the cocktail party circuit.
Such a brave man you are.
Fool.
Instead of the msm begging President Bush to rescue O it would be more appropriate to have Jimmy Carter come to the rescue.

Muslims ARE the “institutions and organizations that had a hand in 9/11.” Only in the Wonderland World of the liberal can the two be separated.
Time for another crusade! Starting right here in the United States.......
If a (so called) religion has an edict that states you must kill the infidel, is it a religion? If it says that you may lie to achieve your ends, is it a religion? If it allows for brutalization women, is it a religion? I say NO and it would not be granted protection by the 1st Amendment!
As David From reminded people this morning, no one lives in that area of Manhattan. The construction of a 13 story mosque is not one of necessity but an act of confrontation. It may be Rauf’s effort to become the Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton of American muslims. Or it may be an effort at muslim missionary work in America. It is not being built to meet a need for a house of worship. If that were the case bulid it in Brooklyn or Woodside, areas with muslim populations are present in numbers, not in a neighborhood that houses few people, but also houses THE symbol of how a segment, a very large segment, of Islam hates us and wishes us, in the words of Ron Kuby that 9/11 morning, “They want us to die.”
My BP jumps everytime I read the islamofascist using the feel good words like “community center” or Learning Center.
This was a ploy discussed in 2005, to hide their TRUE intent.
Commander-in-Chief an oxymoron.
To observe a grouping is stereotyping and profiling, regardless of the intensity of correlation... unless, of course, you are conservative or Christian.
Too obvious a connection to be true!
Where do I sign up?
“Both Imam Rauf and President Obama have earned the right to weigh in as leaders on the building of a cultural center and place of worship near Ground Zero; and they both have a responsibility to do so”
But US citizens do not have right to weigh in on this travesty? Of course, they ARE just the little peasants in the kings mind.
