Katie Couric once described bloggers as journalists who gnaw at new information like piranhas in a pool. But increasingly, many bloggers are also secretly feeding on cash from political campaigns, in a form of partisan payola that erases the line between journalism and paid endorsement.
Its standard operating procedure to pay bloggers for favorable coverage, says one Republican campaign operative. A GOP blogger-for-hire estimates that at least half the bloggers that are out there on the Republican side are getting remuneration in some way beyond ad sales.

Teachout named two prominent bloggers in particular: Jerome Armstrong of myDD.com and Markos Moulitsas Zuniga of Daily Kos. "On Dean's campaign, we paid Markos and Jerome Armstrong as consultants, largely in order to ensure that they said positive things about Dean. We paid them over twice as much as we paid two staffers of similar backgrounds, and they had several other clients," Teachout wrote.
I’ve sometimes wondered how many here might be getting paid to tout their “choice”.
Then again, there are useful idiots who are availabel for free on both sides.
