Muslims say West Ridge mosque plan facing heat
But community leaders say objection is economic, not religious

Muslims ready to convert a once-bustling West Ridge eatery into a mosque say they're facing opposition that churches and synagogues in the neighborhood have not. But objecting neighbors say their opposition is economic.
"In America, everybody has the opportunity to practice their religion and where they want to," said Ahmed Shakil, a member of the Faizan E Madina Islamic Education Center. "If this was a church or a synagogue they would not have these objections, I don't think."
Community residents opposed to the mosque moving into the now-closed U Lucky Dawg drive-thru at 6821 N. Western Ave. reject allegations they're being unfair.
"There is no bigotry involved here," said Amie Zander, president of the West Ridge Chamber of Commerce, over the weekend. "Our sole objection is that we want this prime location to remain a commercial site, paying property tax.

We need a nation-wide chain called Porkers/ A chain that serves pork, and alcohol and features dancing and LOUD rock and Blue Grass Music and allows dogs on the premises. Then we need to open one RIGHT NEXT to EVERY ONE of their damn Mosques!! The music should be LOUD enough to drown out their damn minarets.

Most people do not recognize that what happens in a mosque is sedition. Pure and simple. Islam is not just a “religion”, it is a cult. Larger than that though, it is a political system, it is it’s own government, a economic system (which includes funding new mosque construction), its judicial...all wrapped up in the word sharia. This is inclusive of its military (jihadis) all rolled into one with one intent ...and that is to rule wherever they take root. It is a invasive, systemic infection looking to take over the host once it has quantum.
This is not just a “religion”, but something that cloaks itself in those terms so it should not be given the same treatment contemplated under the first amendment. The Korans Sharia rules are to consume whatever government there is wherever it goes.
Islam is political, and it’s goal is to supplant and replace. Globally.

Not true. An example: In the ‘90’s, a Calvary Chapel Church in NJ, which had outgrown the building it had been renting in an industrial park, paid several thousand dollars for some government-required impact statement on a piece of property within a middle-class community. The township decided to turn down the church’s permit to build after stringing the church along for several months, promising everything was okay. The township kept all the money of course, no refund.
The humor is that someone from a non-protestant group had a religious vision in a field in that community, which drew huge crowds of pilgrims. The township ended up spending an amount for police overtime on crowd control equal to the amount the CC folks had to pay for their defunct permit. :-)

Shakil, in this country you’re not allowed to build anywhere you want. You have freedom of religion but not freedom to ram your beliefs down someone else’s throat. Plus, let me know when you join a true religion.
Same here. A Christian church tried to convert a defunct J C Penney building downtown for use as a church. The local merchants fought against it, and won, on the basis that it would not generate tax revenue, would increase non-commercial parking competition and discomfort the local entertainment venues. Similarly, churches are very restricted in areas where they may build because of zoning, traffic control and such. Mosque-builders are getting the same treatment all religions get here.

You’re right. Our local Islamic Center is a tiny ramshackle building, formerly a tiny residence, on a country road barely within city limits. That’s not to say we don’t have Muslims here. We have quite a few but we are within spitting distance of the California Bay Area and I think a lot of them attend services there.
