NEW YORK (AP) — Republican candidate for governor Carl Paladino said he would transform some New York prisons into dormitories for welfare recipients, where they would work in state-sponsored jobs, get employment training and take lessons in "personal hygiene."

Paladino, a wealthy Buffalo real estate developer popular with many tea party activists, is competing for the Republican nomination with former U.S.Rep. Rick Lazio. The primary is Sept. 14.

Ha! Sounds like a good idea but I’m sure the ACLU would have something to say about it!!

I heard the commercial on the radio this morning. My first thought was, "What were you thinking!"

This is the beginning of the end of his candidacy folks!

He must be an idiot. The MSM is gonna tear him apart.

Oh, that'll make a great headline.

Paladino hasn't got a prayer. His radio ads about using eminent domain are bad enough, but worse are the parts where they say that there are only two candidates to choose from and Cuomo is bad.

There are three. Lazio isn't going anywhere if he loses the primary because he has the Conservative line.

Which, essentially, means that Paladino has already lost.
A Republican can't win statewide office in New York without the conservative line (no guarantee of success if they have both, but no shot of winning without it).

There's an alternate strategy of pursuing the Liberal line, which would deny that to the Democrat candidate (who won't get the Conservative vote), but that's not going to happen here.

It'll be Cuomo or it'll be Lazio, but it WILL NOT be Paladino in November.

Back in the 1960s, the city of Newburgh, NY was getting a large influx of welfare recipients from NYC and points south. The Mayor at the time (whose name eludes me) tried to have all welfare recipients apply for and receive their benefits at the local police station, with the police informally instructed to be as surly and questioning as possible. A state judge put a stop to that real quick after considerable outcry.

Move the welfare recipients to the Ground Zero mosque!

And Loozio will get spanked by Cuomo. This will be a bad year for the GOP at the upper reaches of the ticket in NY.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to check him out. We have "tea Party" candidate running in Michigan who lives in Arizona and claims he didn't know he was running.

Carl Paladino is his own man. He doesn’t comport to the standards of a traditional candidate. Lazio won’t beat Cuomo. Paladino won’t beat Cuomo. But at least, Paladino would make Cuomo a hell of a lot more uncomfortable.

Didn’t say he wouldn’t, but he’s the only one of the two with a shot at this point. If he loses the GOP primary, Cuomo wins, and that’s it.

“What is this guy, a ‘rat plant?”

My thought, exactly. If it sounds crazy to conservatives, imagine what a field day they’ll have in the press. I can’t see the guy winning at all.

Actually a nice warm cell is probably better than living on the streets and safer too. Why not let the homeless have the same benefits as prisoners? 3 hots a day, showers, TV, internet, weight rooms, security, free medical care, etc?

I also think drug tests should be mandatory for all welfare receipients.

A good question to ask is why there are empty prisons to fill welfare recipients with? How about we have the “original intent usage” and put violent offenders in there.

‘Course the ACLU will beef about that too...

That sounds disturbingly familiar . . . .

Dormitory living for welfare recepients should be mandatory. What is wrong with making them work instead of sucking the system dry? Welfare fraud is probably 50% in this country which would put a lot of states back in the black if it was stopped. In California the welfare benefits are akin to a $30.00 per hour job. Where is the incentive for these welfare cheats, who have no pride or dignity, to work for half that amount?

"How soon before the welfare recipients form a union and demand a pension?"

They'd want congressional representation for their 'district'...can you imagine another Maxine Waters?
