Jen Aniston sparks outrage after referring to herself as a 'retard' [Honesty is SO last year...]

Jennifer Aniston is in hot water for using a politically incorrect term on “Live with Regis & Kelly” Thursday morning.

While promoting her flick “The Switch,” Aniston discussed her recent Barbra Streisand-inspired photo shoot for “Harper’s Bazaar” on the show. "Yeah, I got to play dress up,” Jen said to Regis, “I do it for a living, like a retard!"

Now, disability advocates are bashing the actress for her word choice.

A rep for the Special Olympics tells “Us Weekly,” "People with intellectual disabilities have fought their whole lives for understanding and recognition. When people continue to use the R word, it's hurtful."

Joking around or not, she is guilty. It was recorded. It happened on national TV. Along with denigrating people with developmental disabilities, she also denigrated herself.

This whole thing with unacceptable words just stops language from evolving and burdens our thought processes.

Oh my goodness, we wouldn't want to burden anyone's thought processes. We all need to do more thought processing, starting right now.

And, I don't think language could possible evolve any lower.

Is being a redneck a put-down? Or is it used to insult someone?

BEING a redneck is perfectly fine because it means that you are of Scot/Irish descent and have fair skin that doesn’t tan well. It has come to mean (according to leftists) ignorant hill billy or booger eating moron. That old buddy old friend, is an insult in my book.

It’s not too difficult to remember:

call them people.

How about calling them people?

Sure. Retarded people.

Retards for short.

Tards for shorter.

What is worse is being severely physically disabled and some folks don't get it that one can have a normal intelligence.

Or even worse those insisting one is unable to make decisions and is not mentally intact.

Anistan is annoying JMO, won't watch her in movies or tv.

Saw her on Regis and tuned her out.

It’s not too difficult to remember:call them people.

No problem, as long as you apply it to all people.

So there's no African American, White, Hispanic, ... there are only people.

Cool with me, and anyone who doesn't follow the protocol is insensitive, racist ...

This is a really tough one to call.

A chance to put down Jennifer Aniston versus an opportunity to strike a blow against political correctness.

What to do?

I'll just say Jen's lucky she's not retarded.

If she were, Angelina Jolie might just adopt her, and then where would she be?

Did she use “retard” to indicate that, for instance, she accomplished something great, did a good job, or maybe she created a fabulous outfit?

No. And why would she?

Can you not understand why people who are or have loved ones that are handicapped are deeply hurt and offended when others use that label to say “I did something stupid”.

No, I can't. They weren't talking to or about your family member, nor anyone who is developmentally disabled (unless you count the speaker), but themselves in self-depredation.

You're wearing someone else's thin skin, for an uninvolved party.

Save your offense for when it is meant.

Unless you are an advocate who makes it their vocation being offended for other people. Then, by all means, go ahead.

However, in the interest of being unoffensive, please let me know when and who can use the word 'retard'. I'd hate to offend anyone if I have to 'un-advance' the timing on my motorcycle so it kick-starts better.

Well now you’ve done it. You’ve insulted all the retards and queers around here.

But wait! For his final act he has to dance in front of people in wheelchairs.....then we have a trifecta!

It’s an offensive word, meant in an offensive way

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Actually, it is a perfectly acceptable word used in the context of special education today. When my daughter was earning her Master’s degree in Sp. ED. she was using the word repeatedly in her thesis.

I told her that back in the day it was considered rude and she said it isn’t rude now but is used to describe the students who will benefit from sp. ed. classes and quite acceptable. She graduated. BTW and is a great teacher.

Jen’s new movie grossed just 8M opening weekend, in 8th place. In other words another big flop!

>>> Jen’s new movie grossed just 8M opening weekend, in 8th place. In other words another big flop!

And if you look at the competition, the BIG number 1 movie this week was”The Expendables”, which did only twice that gross but with an $80 million production budget. And the movie grosses in between were only a couple million higher. The Aniston movie didn’t cost anywhere near $80 million.

Late summer is a slow time for movies. Big hit, no. Big flop? Not quite. Calling it Fair is about right.

Do you mean calling someone with special needs a “retard”? I do not think so. I am not far from that field myself, and you might hear “MR” or MAYBE “retarded”, but I have NEVER heard a professional call someone with differences a RETARD. I don’t believe you.
