Michael Moore calls soldier accused of leaks 'patriotic' By Bridget Johnson - 08/21/10 10:33 AM ET
Michael Moore called Pfc. Bradley Manning, suspected in the leak of tens of thousands of classified Afghanistan war documents to the WikiLeaks website, "courageous" and said he'll donate $5,000 toward his defense.
The controversial filmmaker told the Associated Press that Manning did the right thing in exposing "war crimes." Manning, 22 and a former intelligence analyst with the Army in Iraq, faces up to 52 years in prison on charges that he leaked a video of a 2007 Apache helicopter attack to WikiLeaks, which posted the video in April.
"He did a courageous thing and he did a patriotic thing," Moore said.
White House and Pentagon officials have slammed the document leaks as particularly endangering Afghan informants and allies named in the documents. The Taliban quickly said it would review the documents and take action against Afghans named working with the U.S. and coalition forces.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen said last month that the leakers of the documents "might already have on their hands the blood of some young soldier or that of an Afghan family."
Moore has posted links on his site to the Bradley Manning Defense Fund, the Bradley Manning Support Network and a Save Bradley group on Facebook (which has 8,675 fans) and Twitter.
Moore also put a link to WikiLeaks on his site, urging readers to "LEAK EVERYTHING YOU GOT!"
PLus,she’s a cutie!
Well, this does nothing to change my opinion of Fat Boy.
Still beneath contempt.
Go away Michael. Nice try at getting back in the spotlight with something controversial but you’re 15 minutes were up long ago.
What's the verse that says "Woe to them who call good bad and bad good..."
MM's brain flipped upside down years ago and I don't see much hope for it ever turning back.
“Eat another cheeseburger........”
I’ll spring for a couple of them. Triple deckers with a half pound of cheese on them.
$5,000
Cheap bastid.
Jabba the Hut speaks.
Well, to be fair to Jabba the Mutt, it is “patriotic” according to his Newspeak definition of terms.
Freedom is slavery.
Slavery is freedom.
2+2 = 5
Control the language and you control minds.
Seriously, Jabba. Go and eat another double of the Western omelet with a big plate of steak tartare on the side.
If this “soldier” — who just happens to be “gay” and had a grudge due to “don’t ask, don’t tell,” so I hear — is tried and found guilty of treason, he should be SHOT.
Michael Moore should be exiled from the United States. Just because it would make life better here — and the supply of cake and cookies would immediately increase overnight — and the prices of desserts would go down....I’m just sayin.’
He’s a buttwart.
liberal idiocy.....the “enemy” is always praised or seen as “patriotic”....
Just amazing how he continues to make millions in a free capitalistic country ! With him its about the $$$...ha.
I think all communists should be exiled to the communist nation of their choice.
Typical marxist. Redefining terms (which means telling a lie) is the only hope to win.
Try to be original, at least.
Michael Moore makes another outlandish comment to gain attention...he’s little more than a boring caricature of his “Roger and Me” past.
Still room in the dock for the treason trials over this.
At least he’s consistent.
There are those who support Obama that call this guy a traitor, but would have cheered him if Bush was in the White House.
“Traitors are patriots” sez the lefty pig.
