Is President Obama good for the Jews? For more and more Jewish-Americans, the answer is no.
In a Pew Research Center report issued on Thursday and entitled Growing Number of Americans Say Obama Is a Muslim (tragic in its own right), there was another bit of bad news for Obama: the number of Jews who identify as Republican or as independents who lean Republican has increased by more than half since the year he was elected. At 33 percent it now stands at the highest level since the data have been kept. In 2008, the ratio of Democratic Jews to Republican Jews was far more than three to one. Now its less than two to one.
This is no doubt a reaction, at least in part, to the Obama administration having taken a hard rhetorical stance with Israel, while taking special time and care on our relationship with the Muslim world, as Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, put it in June. If that sounds like courtship, it is.
(It should be noted that the Pew poll was taken before Obamas bold support for the right of Muslims to build a community center and mosque a few blocks north of ground zero.)
Some of the presidents most ardent critics and some of Israels staunchest American defenders two groups that are by no means mutually exclusive have seized on what they see as the administrations unfair and unbalanced treatment of Israel and have taken their denunciations to the extremes.
In September 2009, Obama went before the United Nations and declared, America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements.

You have proved my point...thanks. You can’t even spell out “Christ”, instead you put an “X”. I will pray for you.
Why are you laughing? Christian hater? Hardly, I recognize that evangelicals are very good friends to the Jewish people. Other mainline groups, not so much. The National Council of Churches and the World Council of Churches are both fairly hostile. The NCC represents about 40 million Christians in the US and the WCC about 400 million worldwide.
The Jewish people are forbidden from worshipping in other religions, so that is just matter-of-fact.
Deut 4: 2Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
6Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
12"Then the LORD spoke to you from the midst of the fire; you heard the sound of words, but you saw no form--only a voice. 13"So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, that is, (R)the Ten Commandments; and (S)He wrote them on two tablets of stone. 15"So (T)watch yourselves carefully, since you did not see any (U)form on the day the LORD spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire,
16so that you do not act corruptly and make a graven image for yourselves in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female,
So, G-d revealed Himself with NO FORM, gave us the commandments, told us to do them forever and not to worship anything in heaven or on earth other the Him and Him only, worship no likeness of a man.
Not hating, just following the word of G-d.
“So far as I know, American-style Fundamentalist Protestants have never done any of this. Unfortunately, they’re the ones paying the price for the actions of now “ecumenical” ancient liturgical churches.”
What’s the quote . . “1900 years of Christian love have made the Jews a nervous people.”?
The closing scene from Free Willy, when the whale leaps to freedom comes to mind, as well as Spielberg’s Prince of Egypt number: There Can Be Miracles.
American-style Fundamentalist Protestants know absolutely nothing about chr*stian history. All they know is their bible, and to them that settles it.
I'll say it again . . . American-style Fundamentalist Protestants are not the chr*stians who turned the streets of the ghettos and shtetlach red with blood, but for some reason they are the ones who pay the price in distrust and hostility while the churches that actually did this stuff are "ecumenical" chat partners.
Yasher koach!
Ah, thank you much.
I’ve not only butchered the quote, I have variously attributed it to Golda Meir and others.
OH, I know.
I just wonder how the Roman Catholic relationship with Jewish people started -— friendly at first, then coercive, then violent? I suspect there is a pattern.
I just wonder how the Roman Catholic relationship with Jewish people started - friendly at first, then coercive, then violent? I suspect there is a pattern.
When was it friendly?
Plus there's the fact that Roman Catholicism (and all the ancient churches) got their converts by imperial proclamation and the sword, whereas American Fundamentalist Protestants have never used those methods. And how could they? Liturgical chr*stians were trying to force a religion on people (which they entered by baptism and then participated in via ritual). There is no ritual in Fundamentalist Protestantism. They don't even baptize their newborns. Each and every human being has to "walk that lonesome valley." How in the world could one have forced mass conversions to such a religion? It simply isn't possible. It's one thing to participate in a ritual, quite another to make a sincere individual decision.
I realize that perhaps Jewish FReepers think I have rose-colored glasses on with regard to FP's, but I must tell you that I know these people better than you do. It's simply a totally different religion from liturgical chr*stianity, however much terminology the two share in common.
Beware of those who will try to divide us.
They seek derision for a reason.
Who are the ADL contingent on FreeRepublic?
I have not had much computer time lately so this is a week old already. I am not going to mention any names and get into a mud slinging contest with these players. I don’t have access to past conservations to support naming individuals. They know who they are and they know they harass people by wrongly accusing them of being against Jews or Israel. It is my experience of the way they have harassed me and the way they have treated others at Free Republic.
It is nothing less than a false sense of inherent tribal superiority with an attitude that they are controlling and addressing “inferiors.” In my opinion, it hurts the cause of unity for the protection of Israel and that support for Israel is falling apart in the country under the Left’s (Muslims and Marxists) false charges that “Jews and their Nation are purely raicst.”
I think you are a bigot towards Christians unless they kiss your royal fanny. So we are even.
