I used to deploy tradeshows in NYC and Philadelphia. The unions always play hardball. If you let the union workers work just one minute past their work time, they charge you overtime immediately. And you cannot work on the booth yourself, the union people have to do it, because it’s their “job”.
Been down the same road. Our industry has not held a major show in NYC for a very long time.
I had the same experience when I worked for a company that attended COMDEX every year in Las Vegas. Had to sit and wait for a union electrician to run an extension cord.

Rush Limbaugh has said that when he broadcasted out of his NYC studio, a union person had to switch on his mic. Rush could not do it because he was not in a (or the designated) union.
