Palin's Deft Touch on Race Relations (Barf Alert)
Newsweek ^ | August 19, 2010 | Alan Mascarenhas

Posted on 08/19/2010 8:08:20 PM PDT by militanttoby

Two conflicting pieces of evidence on the state of race relations in America. Exhibit A: an African-American elected to the White House amid tears of joy and a 53 percent vote share. Exhibit B: Sarah Palin’s cheeky, defiant—and increasingly incendiary—tweets.

On Wednesday, Palin leaped to defend radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger, who used the N word 11 times when a black woman called her advice hotline last week. After the furor broke, Dr. Laura apologized for a “horrible mistake.” She also announced she would end her radio show so she could “get her First Amendment rights back” away from the media glare—prompting a certain ex-governor in Wasilla to take to Twitter: "Dr.Laura:don't retreat...reload! (Steps aside bc her 1st Amend.rights ceased 2exist thx 2activists trying 2silence'isn't American, not fair')."

Later, Palin added: "Dr.Laura=even more powerful & effective w/out the shackles, so watch out Constitutional obstructionists. And b thankful 4 her voice,America!"

It’s amazing what Twitter has done to political discourse.

Now they want her to be PC, and to be responsible, according to their values of course. No thanks!

"Palin’s clout grows—at least in the Republican Party, where she has just endorsed another seven of her female “mama grizzly” candidates. Palin may have moxie, she may be entertaining. But as clout grows, so does responsibility, and one would like to think there comes a point where even she should know better, too."

The last time I saw a Newsweek article, it was (appropriately) lining the bottom of a birdcage.

O’Reilly just had Dr. Laura’s clip on. I see DL’s point, and I agree. But her use of the N word 11 times on the air was wrong and she should have known it at the time. Likewise, Sarah jumping in when she didn’t need to was incorrect — sometimes Sarah just needs to be quiet and this was one of those.

O’Reilly just had Dr. Laura’s clip on ...

Sorry, it was Hannity or maybe Greta. It was just on in the background and it was one of the three ... Long day...

I dont think Dr. Laura was being racist I think she was just trying to prove a point that many blacks(I have heard the N word so many times on the bus) use it yet people don’t see an issue with it but your right, she went WAY overboard by saying it 11 times..2 times Ok but 11 times was extreme. I can understand Sarah wanting to defend her(Weird since Dr. Laura doesn’t even like her) because she knows how it feels to have her words taken out of context so in that sense I think she was just trying to defend another person being smeared by the press

Well, I understand your reservations, I had them too when I first saw the tweet, especially given Dr Laura's comments in the past about Palin. But she loves tweaking the libs, and I like it too. They just want to frame everything according to their rules and values, and I'm sick & tired of most republicans always playing defense.

Actually Sarah’s post made sense.....it wasn’t whitewashing anything but clarifying how the left use “racism” and smear tactics all the time....no one reading it will come out of it saying Sarah was defending the use of the N-word or anything other than some lefty’s...it’s no big deal.

She lives in their head rent free that’s for sure. Just goes to show that Sarah Palin will defend someone, even if that person doesn’t even like her. What I like about Sarah is that she doesn’t give a damn about what some people think of her, she does what she thinks in her heart is right, be damned anyone else’s opinion. About damn time Republicans start standing up for themselves.

LOL. And mad they no longer are relevant. Hence the need to write articles on Tweets!

Naw, Dr. Laura was right. What do we have, Speech Police? First, words are not forbidden in this country; that’s just plain fascist. Second, WHO gets to say who can say a word and who cannot? THEY do? How are they going to enforce it? All she did was say the word. She broke a taboo, but a very Politically Correct one. We do not have to ‘obey’ PC rules.

She spoke for me, too.
