I would have to see the whole video, before I could even have a chance at a ball park observation here.

This may have been a decent kid. It appears he didn’t have a criminal record. Did he act out here? Did the officers feel the need to send a message.

If the officers did think a message needed to be sent, this wasn’t the way to go about it.

My first inclination is to support the officers. Sadly, that is a position that can’t always be sustained. In this instance, it appears there is a real problem here.

Public employees SHOULD NOT be able to form unions.

Here is a conflict of interest. The good of the public is not served by defending officers who have beaten a suspect.

This kid should have been taken into custody without incident. I’d have to see the video to fully understand why he wasn’t.

Either there is something I’m not seeing here, or the officer seriously screwed up. If they did, they abused this young man under color of authority.

We see this sort of thing over and over. It appears there needs to be a re-education of officers. If there is a problem, we’ll back you when you try to get things back under control. If you abuse your authority, we’ll help put you behind bars for a long time.

Officers, I want to support you. Please make it possible for me to do so. Beating kids around the head for no reason (if that’s what took place here), is no way to gain my or the public’s at large support.

“Did he act out here? Did the officers feel the need to send a message.”

The kid was just standing there while on the phone to his LEO father. You can hear the cops say “We gotta get the phone.” Then the a-hole tackles him and starts beating him, as the camera pans away.

Public employees SHOULD NOT be able to form unions.

Worth repeating.

I wonder if you would indulge a brief digression though.

Back in the day, when I was coming up, I might have been out after closing time once or twice. But one thing that never entered my mind was to loundly offer my advice/opinion on an officer's handcuffing technique, ancestry, or personal hygene while he was dealing with another unruly drunk. No one did, because you would have expected to have your @ss handed to you, and everyone present would have figured you had it coming.

Was that just here in LA? I don't think so, but maybe it was all wine and roses outside of the land of the Lotus Eaters. Post Rodney King, that's all changed, probably for the better. But the notion that the cops have gotten more likely to give a guy a "tune up", rather than less likely to be "proactive", runs counter to my personal recollection of past vs. present policing use of force standards. I realize this wasn't the issue you raised, but I'm curious, and it's impossible to have this discussion with the Libertarians for some reason, so I figured I'd just ask you what you thought.

Did you see any of the video? The cop goes from trying to break one kids leg to beating on the other. The cop had his dept issued weapon and was rocking it across the kids ankle while putting his weight on it. The second kid didn’t do anything and yet had the crap kicked out of him. Including getting the car door slammed on his foot.

Its well documented that the cops lied on their reports. Why would you back these thugs?

"Did the officers feel the need to send a message."

The officers feelings/needs are not germane to doing their jobs nor is sending a message their job. We have an entire court system set up to decide if a message should be sent, what the message should be and another entire probation/penal system to send that message.

Cops that try to be judge and jury should be fired. Law enforcement all over the US are out of control and a correction is needed.
