The whole idea of building the “Mosque” in the chosen or designated area is to add insult to injury and every one tip toes around this issue and no one has the guts or balls to say it out loud. So glad that the “Muslims would consider” a different location. Sort of reminds me of just one of the thousand things that rankled me about Obama, who, as he got closer to his inevitable Presidency, would say things like “I would consider” (the possibility of this or that policy).

Is this a Muzzy defeat or a shakedown?
All, please understand that this “community center” may be built “as of right,” meaning that there are NO legal obstacles whatsoever to its construction.
No permission need be asked of anyone; the last hurdle being the Landmarks Preservation Commission, which ruled that the building had no architectural or historical value that required landmark status.
(Yes, I to would have given it historical value based on the fact the part of the landing gear from the second plane crashed through the roof of the building - but I am not on the commission.)
If the goal is to prevent the mosque from being built, the sponsors will have to stop or move the project VOLUNTARILY; to that end, Patterson has done us a favor by opening dialogue. Also, I am not sure that state land will be given for free - I was under the impression that the state would be willing to sell the land.
But even if it were given for free - I can live with that a lot easier than the mosque. Since they are building as of right, I think it’s the best deal we can get.
