Our Clueless Professor

Have we ever had a president so disconnected from the heart of America?

On Friday night, at a White House iftar, the breaking of the Ramadan fast, Obama strode directly into the blazing controversy over whether a mosque should be built two blocks from Ground Zero.

Speaking as though this were simply an open-and-shut case of constitutional law, Professor Obama declared that Muslims "have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country," including "the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan."

Hailed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who also sees this as an issue of tolerance and religious freedom, Obama had poured gasoline on a fire that had him in headlong retreat Saturday morning.

"I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there. I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding. That is what our country is about."

Professor Obama finally seemed to grasp the point.

This is not a question of "Can they build a mosque near Ground Zero?"

It is an question of "Should they build a mosque in the shadow of the twin towers, where 3,000 Americans were suffocated, crushed or burned to death by Islamic fanatics whose Muslim faith was integral to their mission of mass murder and to their identify?"

whilst i believe that the BOR should apply to the states, when we get down to fed rules of ‘reasonable restrictions’ using the least common denominator, such as NY, we will ultimately be screwed...until we revert to ‘shall not be infringed’ at the fed level...

They can take out a whole newspaper promising any connection to violent islamists and it would be a lie. The quo’ran tells them it’s ok to lie, just so they get what they want. Whenever they speak...it’s a lie.

I seriously wonder if Obama has ever had a conversation about economics with anyone other than a Keynesian or Marxist or zero-sum Mercantilist?

Has he ever had a course in economics? I mean other than “Econ203: Studies in Colonialist Exploitation of the Poor By Evil Americans.”

THAT is true. ANY Muslims planning to build a mosque in the US should be making AT LEAST a pretense of understanding how completely maladroit the site selection is for this one.

Here’s the problem. They got the GREEN LIGHT from this ‘administration’ LOOOOONNNG time ago! NO DEFERENCE to America or Americans is required. In fact, the more insolent and disrespectful you can be to Americans, the better. Yea... they got THAT message loud and clear from “O”!!

whilst i believe that the BOR should apply to the states,

There is a difference between believing in principles and having preferences as to how they are enforced. For in having the power to enforce a right, government then has the power to violate it. The higher, larger, and more remote is that level of enforcement, the less recourse a citizen has against tyranny.

Accordingly, please tell me the operational difference between FedGov enforcing the BOR against the states and the UN enforcing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights against nations.

at this point and speed down the ole slippery slope there is none...in the original understanding, We the People controlled fedgov, and so long as we were a moral population, it would resist the upside down condition that we now 'enjoy'...

if that made any sense...

“He is reflexively wrong on nearly everything.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

That is why I say that he is DELIBERATELY doing all possible damage to America and never intended to do the right thing. You could look at the presidency as a multiple choice exam. On any major question there are choices being offered by advisors, consultants, subordinates etc. your job is to pick the right one. No one can make a zero on a multiple choice exam by accident or simple stupidity, you will get something right by chance. Even a blind hog finds an acorn sometime and a stopped clock is right twice a day. I don’t consider Obama to be highly intelligent, in fact I think he is nearly helpless on his own but someone is telling him what to do to wreck America. He can’t get every answer wrong just by guessing poorly.

Yep, and I used to think Bill Clinton was the supreme liar, he seems like a piker by comparison to Obamalamadingdong.

LOL, it did. I guess you saw that one coming, and yes, it was a pretty nasty question, but in my own defense, it was meant to lead to something: With regard to that slippery slope, I would submit that it had been greased before the ink was dry on the Constitution.

Selective incorporation is an abomination.

What selective incorporation? The SCOTUS most recently used the 14th Amendment to apply the Second Amendment to state and local government.

Not all the BOR is fully incorporated. Consider Kelo, which relegated 5th Amendment takings to state standards.

That’s a different issue. The SCOTUS has held on numerous occassions that the “taking’s” clause in the 5th Amendment applies to state and local goverment throughthe 14th Amendment. What the SCOTUS did in Kelo is redefine the phrase “public use” under the 5th and 14th Amendments.

Oh, it's not that bad; all it takes is a seriously warped sense of humor.

BTW, The first four articles on that site are pivotal to understanding how and why we got where we are. Both books are serious examinations of what to do about it. You won't find their like anywhere else.

Sarah was the first to express this almost exact sentiment.

Then Kristol, Gingrich, Krauthammer, Rush, Harry Ried and many others followed.

Sarah has been the conservatism's' cutting edge since she promoted herself to national politics.
