OAXACA, Mexico — Unidentified gunmen shot eight men to death and piled their bodies in a pickup truck in the southern state of Oaxaca, Mexican authorities reported Monday after a weekend in which at least 19 people were slain nationwide.

The victims were apparently on a hunting trip in rural Oaxaca near the Gulf coast when they were attacked. The state prosecutors' office said they were shot in the head and found Sunday, and one was 15 years old.

The motive is under investigation, but the region has been wracked by drug violence, land disputes and other feuds.

My sister and her husband are building a large house there. But it’s in Baja. Apparently since it doesn’t connect to anything the drug stuff is not much of a big deal there.

Baja is as bad as the rest of the Country. It has gone way downhill in the past 15 years.
You can feel the hatred in what once was a beautiful place

The Mexican drug wars are mainly about the overland routes, not the drugs themselves. Baja has been pretty decent, but you never know.

Without getting specific, it’s nowhere near Tijuana or Cabo.

“Any American who would go to Mexico is an idiot. Beware.”

Agreed, bump!

I think a total boycott of Mexico by American tourists would have that country straightened out pronto!

>>The Mexican drug wars are mainly about the overland routes...<<

That’s kinda how it was ‘splained to me. Baja may get some overflow attitude, but the serious stuff is in Mexico proper. And a lot of that is fighting with the indigenous indians - also not a Baja issue.

Who knows, maybe Baja will become the location of most American tourist traps as time goes on.

TJ has had their battles on and off. Not too long ago, kids showed up early for school and 10 headless bodies were laid out in the schoolyard. There have been at least 2 running gun battles between federal police and drug runners. IIRC 2008 there were 23 Americans kidnapped in Baja, mostly TJ.

I used to run down to lobster village a couple of times a year with some ex-coworkers. Two of them were born in Mexico and got aropund nicely. We haven't gone since early 2008.

The Chiapas indians have been somewhat rebels/terrorists for some time. Southern Mexico is still pissed because all the $$$ from both Mexico and America are going into the north and they’re dirt poor down there.

See if you can take out life insurance on both of them and if it will pay off in a foreign country. It might be a wise move. You can get a million term policy pretty cheap.

The best way to get rid of our illegals is to force employers to pay undocumented workers 100% more than documented workers.
