The Mexican drug wars are mainly about the overland routes, not the drugs themselves. Baja has been pretty decent, but you never know.

That’s kinda how it was ‘splained to me. Baja may get some overflow attitude, but the serious stuff is in Mexico proper. And a lot of that is fighting with the indigenous indians - also not a Baja issue.

Who knows, maybe Baja will become the location of most American tourist traps as time goes on.

TJ has had their battles on and off. Not too long ago, kids showed up early for school and 10 headless bodies were laid out in the schoolyard. There have been at least 2 running gun battles between federal police and drug runners. IIRC 2008 there were 23 Americans kidnapped in Baja, mostly TJ.

I used to run down to lobster village a couple of times a year with some ex-coworkers. Two of them were born in Mexico and got aropund nicely. We haven't gone since early 2008.
