Mosque flap swirls around Obama
Politico ^ | August 14, 2010 | JAMES HOHMANN & MAGGIE HABERMAN, MIKE ALLEN R

Posted on 08/15/2010 9:05:33 AM PDT by yoe

The White House on Saturday struggled to tamp down the controversy over President Barack Obama’s statements about a mosque near Ground Zero — insisting Obama wasn’t backing off remarks Friday night where he offered support for a project that has infuriated some families whose loved ones died in the Sept. 11 attacks.

Obama’s comments placed him in the middle of the controversy over a Muslim group’s plans for a mosque near the site of the 2001 attack — and in turn, transformed an emotion-laden local dispute in New York into a nationwide debate overnight.

Republicans pounced, amid early signs that the issue would seep into some state and congressional contests. “It is divisive and disrespectful to build a mosque next to the site where 3,000 innocent people were murdered at the hands of Islamic extremism,” said Florida GOP Senate candidate Marco Rubio. His opponent, Charlie Crist, a Republican turned independent, came out in support of Obama’s comments.

And Democrats — at least some who were willing to comment — could barely contain their frustration over Obama’s remarks, saying he had potentially placed every one of their candidates into the middle of the debate by giving GOP candidates a chance to ask them point-blank: Do you agree with Obama on the mosque, or not?

That could be particularly damaging to moderate Democrats in conservative-leaning districts, already 2010’s most vulnerable contenders.

[snip] Obama’s comments Friday night — at an Iftar dinner at the White House marking the start of Ramadan — were widely reported as offering support for the specific mosque project in question near Ground Zero.

The little dictator will do what he wants and to hell with us. Get used to it, he will find ways to fund the building. And he will probably get another term. He has bought and will continue to buy votes with our taxes.

This is a copy of the email I sent out to my lists yesterday:

New York City voted by a huge margin to put B.O. in the White House, now they’re crying their eyes out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election_in_New_York,_2008

A COMMENT with which I agree: “If New York votes Democrat in the next election, they richly deserve another attack. If America votes Democrat, let them have poverty, torture, murder, and all else that Sharia brings.” ~ 3

Or as I stated it in the past here: “I hope all those who supported & support that [fill in the blank] in the White House (and that ‘RAT majority in both Houses of Congress that agrees with, and does his bidding), get exactly what they voted for good and hard right between the eyes.”

Looks like it’s happening. Problem is, they’re taking the wiser and MUCH more discerning among the population right down the drain with them.

And even if Republicans win the House and possibly the Senate this November, these same clueless people will give the credit to B.O. for any good they do to turn things around in the economy (just like they gave Clinton the credit for what the Republican House did when they took control from the ‘RATs in 1994 and the economy began to boom. All Clinton did was sign their bills.)

As far as I’m concerned, people should have to be able to pass a tough civics test before being allowed to vote. If they don’t even know how their own government works - (which is set up completely different from any other government on earth, and why people are clamoring to live and work here) they have no business nullifying the votes of those who do and are able to cast an INFORMED vote.

Informed voters are the TRUE minority.

The President Stands with Sharia
August 14, 2010 9:00 AM
By Andy McCarthy

At Andrew Breitbart’s Big Peace site, Frank Gaffney explains.

All of it is worth reading, but I was struck by Frank’s description of three people among the invited company in which President Obama chose to make his announcement in support the Ground Zero mosque:

Ingrid Mattson, the head of a Muslim Brotherhood satellite organization, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), that was identified by the Justice Department as an unindicted coconspirator in a terrorism financing case (and was proved, in fact, to have sent money to Hamas);

Salam al-Marayati, a self-described supporter of Hezbollah (and one Steve Emerson aptly describes as an anti-anti-terrorist); and

Dalia Mogahed, an apologist for sharia’s subjugation of women who has embraced ISNA, CAIR and other Islamist groups in her role as an Obama appointee to the President’s Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

The president has long been governing against the will of the American people. It’s good to see, concretely, whose will his governance favors. Given the choice between the 9/11 Families for a Safe & Strong America and ISNA, Obama chooses ISNA.

Obama Shrinks America
August 14, 2010 12:15 PM
By Kathryn Jean Lopez

Bill Kristol responds to the President’s patronizing dismissal of critics of the Ground Zero mosque:

For Obama, 9/11 was a “deeply traumatic event for our country.” Traumatic events invite characteristic reactions and over-reactions–fearfulness, anger, even hysteria. That’s how Obama understands the source of objections to the Ground Zero mosque. It’s all emotional. The arguments don’t have to be taken seriously. The criticisms of the mosque are the emotional reactions of a traumatized people.

But Americans aren’t traumatized. 9/11 was an attack on America, to which Americans have responded firmly, maturely, and appropriately. Part of our sensible and healthy reaction is that there shouldn’t be a 13-story mosque and Islamic community center next to Ground Zero (especially when it’s on a faster track to be built than the long-delayed memorial there). But Obama (like Bloomberg) doesn’t feel he even has to engage the arguments against the mosque–because he regards his fellow citizens as emotionally traumatized victims, not citizens who might have a reasonable point of view.

9/11 Families Stunned by President’s Support of Mosque at Ground Zero
August 14, 2010 6:35 AM
By Andy McCarthy

Here’s the statement issued by Debra Burlingame, the co-founder of 9/11 Families for a Safe & Strong America:

Barack Obama has abandoned America at the place where America’s heart was broken nine years ago, and where her true values were on display for all to see. Since that dark day, Americans have been asked to bear the burden of defending those values, again and again and again. Now this president declares that the victims of 9/11 and their families must bear another burden. We must stand silent at the last place in America where 9/11 is still remembered with reverence or risk being called religious bigots.

Muslims have worshipped in New York without incident both before and after the attacks of 9/11. This controversy is not about religious freedom. 9/11 was more than a “deeply traumatic event,” it was an act of war. Building a 15-story mosque at Ground Zero is a deliberately provocative act that will precipitate more bloodshed in the name of Allah. Those who continue to target and kill American civilians and U.S. troops will see it as a symbol of their historic progress at the site of their most bloody victory. Demolishing a building that was damaged by wreckage from one of the hijacked planes in order to build a mosque and Islamic Center will further energize those who regard it as a ratification of their violent and divinely ordered mission: the spread of shariah law and its subjugation of all free people, including secular Muslims who come to this country fleeing that medieval ideology, which destroys lives and crushes the human spirit.

We are stunned by the president’s willingness to disregard what Americans should be proud of: our enduring generosity to others on 9/11 a day when human decency triumphed over human depravity. On that day, when 3,000 of our fellow human beings were killed in a barbaric act of raw religious intolerance unlike this country had ever seen, Americans did not turn outward with hatred or violence, we turned to each other, armed with nothing more than American flags and countless acts of kindness. In a breathtakingly inappropriate setting, the president has chosen to declare our memories of 9/11 obsolete and the sanctity of Ground Zero finished. No one who has lived this history and felt the sting of our country’s loss that day can truly believe that putting our families through more wrenching heartache can be an act of peace.

We will honor the memory of our loved ones. We will protect our children, whose lives will never be the same. We will not stand silent.

A mosque IN the Pentagon? What exactly is the excuse for that? Does every other religion have a space set aside for them individually? I would doubt it.

“Someone should ask Obama this question:

What would Mohamed Atta have thought in the final seconds as he saw the Twin Towers, and the surrounding neighborhood, if he knew that in a little more then a decade a tall mosque would rise in that location?

My answer: Allah Akbar”

Maybe. I think he’d have thought, ‘You’re pulling my leg. Not even Americans are that stupid/insane.’

[Note: Do I have to say it? Conservatives are not stupid or insane. And maybe we can stop this mosque. But if it goes up, I still say Atta’s reaction would have been stupified disbelief.]

If you go to Drudge and look at the photo of Obama there, you will see a guy who is pale, tired, and weak looking— he looks remarkably like somebody who is doing the Ramadan fast.

The tenets of Islam are at cross purposes with Judeo-Christian principles, which are the foundations of our government. They cannot coexist peacefully.
