Polish troops accused of blowing up house for fun
15/08 08:56 CET
Polands military is investigating claims that a group of its soldiers blew up an empty family home in Afghanistan for fun.
If true the act would have been in violation of the Geneva convention.
The probe was launched after a three-minute film of the alleged incident appeared on the internet.
The Polish government says it is not yet clear whether the building was a legitimate target or not.
Polands Ministry of Defence spokesman in charge of the mission in Afghanistan Colonel Piotr Lukasiewicz said: When the hearing (tribunal) of the soldiers who participated in the recording is over, only then will one be able to say if the military rules there on the mission were really violated.
The incident has become an embarrassment to Polands 2,600 strong military contingent.
But if as the Polish military claims the soldiers were simply destroying a cache of unexploded ammunition, the action would have been within the rules of engagement.
Why those crazy kids...
Yet we still don’t have the answer to the lightbulb joke, but we know a Polish Army battalion is not enough.
Sounds like fun!
Hey its reality that if you give big kids a lot of big firepower one is going to get loose once in a while!
When my son’s unit was getting ready to turn more of Falluja over to the Iraquis they had great fun blowing up the old Satellites (toilets) with grenades. Of course they had permission.
Wahhhh, whine and wahhhh hahahhahaha
This reminded me of an anecdote of the First World War.
In August, 1914, the British Expeditionary Force was deploying to meet the oncoming Germans. A Battery of Royal Horse Artillery wheeled into action and began throwing down fences and farm outbuildings to emplace the battery. A British Major rode up to the scene shouting: “Stop, you can’t do that, its private property.”
Eurabianews needs to devote more time to reporting objective truth rather than sensationalist headlines.
So what's the big deal? You get a little mud, maybe some straw, and in two or three hours, you are good as new.
You say that like it's a BAD thing...
Why, our media does just fine without doing it either.
Are you trying to tell me that this particular third world house actually had a light bulb in it even though it wasn’t wired for electricity or had running water? I guess they will be needing at least 10 battalions for this job.
If it was not currently being used as an enemy outpost, it probably had been or would be in the future. The soldiers showed great initiative.
Good for them! Brave boys, having fun! Pozdrawiają was! Honor i Ojczyzna!
Now that they've blown up the House, they should do the same for the Senate....
And the blast resulted in 5 dollars worth of damage.
