One day after President Obama defended the freedom of Muslims to build an Islamic complex near New York's Ground Zero, he offered a less forceful version of that position on Saturday: Yes, Muslims have that right, Obama said -- but that doesn't mean he believes it is the right thing for them to do...
But he went on to explain that he was not endorsing the construction of the Islamic center. "I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there," he said. "I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding."
Obama's speech Friday brought down an avalanche of criticism from the right -- as the White House surely expected it would...
But Obama's remarks also unsettled many of his fellow Democrats, who would have preferred that he not embroil himself...
"It's going to play poorly for many Democrats and will be used as a political club by those Republicans willing to exploit it," said one senior Democratic aide on Capitol Hill...
Their concern is not that Obama's comments will feed the myths about his citizenship, his religion and his allegiances that have taken root in the far reaches of the right; those voters are cemented in place against the Democrats already....
However, to his critics it suggests a disregard for the wishes of the public. "It feels very Bush-esque," said Matthew Dowd, who was a top political adviser to former President George W. Bush until they parted ways over the Iraq war. Dowd said Republicans will exploit the controversy to ask, "Does this guy listen, or does he think he's too smart for all of us?"

It’s simply amazing that the sycophantic press whores continue to repeat the ridiculous assertions of Bloomberg and Osama that people have the right to build what they want on private party.
I’m sure there have been thousands of denials over the years by local governments turning down zoning requests for churches wanting to be built on private property.
First off, none of our Constitutional Rights are absolute, nor was the Constitution intended to be a suicide pact.
I do not believe that Contitutional protection should be extended to a so called religion that when followed correctly has the stated purpose of abolishing all other governments and establishing its own Sharia rule.
To me this is a clear case of self-preservation and common sense.

He can lie and obfuscate and try to "backpedal" all he wants, but it is too late, he cannot undo what he has done;
Obama didn't just "spit it the eye of America;" he pulled down his pants in front of the entire country and world, squatted on the hallowed 9/11/01 Ground Zero site and took a huge PUBLIC DUMP UPON GROUND ZERO AND UPON ALL OF AMERICA! After he was done, he got up, pulled up his pants, smiled, his narcissistic smile at the camera and said: "This is where I stand regarding America, Islam and Ground Zero."

The DUmmies will probably say this is just another example of his brilliance—he’s so smart, he can take both sides of every issue.
I just told my mother (a hard core FDR Democrat) that Obama just took back his endorsement of the ground zero mosque. She didn't bat an eye. Just said she didn't see anything wrong with building it there. She thinks Osama's original statement was an endorsement.
Note that The Obammunist went on TV to endorse the Cordoba Mosque. But he backtracked through his surrogates' back door.

If Obama was smart, he would have just stuck with Gibbs’s original response that it was a “local issue”. He would have been mostly right, too - the President really has no business getting involved in local building permit issues.
Of course, with the Henry Gates fiasco, Obama has already demonstrated ample willingness to stick his nose in local issues. I doubt the press would have called him out on the inconsistency if he’d declined to do so this time, though.
Obama couldn’t resist, though. He sees it as his mission in life to whip us ignorant, bigoted rubes into proper, enlightened New Progressive Men. I’m glad he does, too, because this sort of thing will be his downfall.
Democrats have turned into these self-delusional people who think their BELIEF of something is more important than reality. I’ve seen this over and over, where people select certain comments by a politician to take as the REAL position the pol takes, and simply dismiss anything the same pol may have said that interferes with this fantasy construction.
Chris Matthews is a perfect example. He so WANTS to believe in these old time BS fantasy pols that he simply edits what doesn’t fit his fantasy.
