Actor James Caan Declares At Film Festival Opening Night “I’m Not A God Damn Hollywood Liberal”

At the Moet & Chandon’s 6th Annual Hollyshorts Film Festival Opening Night Celebration in Los Angeles James Caan informed the Hollywood crowd that he is “ultra-conservative” and states “I’m not a God damn Hollywood liberal, I’m not.”

After 46 years in the acting business, Caan not only speaks to his political leanings but also criticizes, quite snarkily, Hollywood liberals that consistently use their fame to push a political agenda.

Caan, who was at the event promoting his involvement with the online platform Openfilm.com, also added that he doesn’t think Hollywood actors need to comment on every single political issue. When Pop Tarts questioned him on California courts deeming Proposition 8, which bans same sex marriage, “unconstitutional,” he preferred to keep his lips sealed.

“I don’t want to comment on that. I’ll let those other geniuses do that – all those actors who like to find a stage to push their agendas,” he said. “They don’t have political science degrees… I certainly don’t. I’ll leave it to Sean Penn or Barbara Streisand to comment on that.”

Caan is well known for his role as Santino ‘Sonny’ Corleone in “The Godfather” and more recently he played the President in “Get Smart” and Ed Deline in the television show “Las Vegas.”

Until conservatives start bankrolling and producing films actors (who have to belong to the liberal actors guild) will have to support their liberal employers views to work.

The Paleocon Family made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.

(That’s right. They loaded their weapons with logic, facts, reason, common sense, and then they ambushed Caan at the toll booth where the government’s charge for crosssing into town had just tripled.)

Quite right too. Well done Mr Caan.

A Holywood actor or "celebrity" is, of course, just as entitled to their political viewpoints as any other citizen. But unless they also have some kind of specialist knowledge on a particular subject, their opinion is just that - an opinion. No better and no worse than anyone elses. I think in such circumstances it is invalid for them to use their fame to push their viewpoint.

It used to be that famous people were very chary of sharing their political beliefs. How I wish such days were with us again now.

He stayed true to his point that actors shouldn’t be spouting off about every little political issue.

Would be good if his son were a conservative too, as he is the new star who seems popular with a lot of young people.

I’m sure some FReeper with nothing better to do will be along soon with some campaign contribution or statement James Caan has made to “prove” he is not “A REAL CONSERVATIVE”.
