Couple in Duluth SWAT Standoff Speaks (Foreclosure)

DULUTH, Ga. - A couple who lost their home to foreclosure and spent hours locked in a SWAT standoff with police when they refused to leave, talked about the situation Thursday.

The Grabers said they were living their version of the American dream. The Grabers said they owned their home for more than a decade when Howard Graber suffered a massive stroke. The Grabers said that's when everything changed.

On Wednesday, Gwinnett County deputies went to the Graber's Davenport Park Lane home to serve an eviction notice after the bank had foreclosed on the property. It turned into a four hour standoff and SWAT teams were called in.

"I was afraid for my life. I was afraid for my disabled husband's life. There's no way I was going to go to the front door," said Noya Lee Graber.

Police eventually stormed the house. Howard Graber spent the night in jail.

"They said, 'Taser her! Taser her now!' and I got tasered right on my stomach," said Noya Lee Graber.

If they can’t pay it off, they don’t own it. Lots of people suffer tragedy. That doesn’t entitle them. Some think it does but not conservatives.

You bet......Give it back to the banksters and fat corps who were bailed out to the tune of trillions, by the Grabers along with millions of other Americans.

That's a kids logic. When they want something or get caught they point at others as an excuse. "The corporations got bailed out why can't I?!" is not a justification.

I live on a farm that I would love to own. Could I get gubmint money to buy it? Probably. Am I going to? No. Gubmint handouts is no way to live. And just because others do it is no excuse to do the same. Others can rob taxpayers. I don't care to.

Fortunately, I have gotten pretty good at avoiding renting to them, in the first place.

Why do you hate poor people?

If these people can't pay for the house it is not theirs. That a "conservative" would try to argue otherwise speaks to an ethics problem.

And you didn't address what I said. You just posted the same whiny excuse that "others got away with it why not me?"

Once again, the banksters, insiders and their corrupt government agents all totally agree with you!

Ethics? You want to play?

Question:

Why is it conservative to allow the banksters, fatcorps and Wall Steet insiders to get away with epic fraud and force the tax payers to bail them out to to the tune of multiple trillions?

How is this conservative?

If you could be specific.

None of that has any bearing on this couple not being able to afford their bills. Again you are making excuses that sound like "Waaah! Where's mine?!" What others do is no excuse to bilk fellow taxpayers.

I have other things to do right now. Have a good day.

DJ, you are right. But guess what, there a 2 sets of rules/laws going on right now. And yes, life was never fair but this is blatant and in our face.

One set of rules/laws for us, one set for others. You can continue and live the high road, and that is admirable. But we are in a real war and the other guys are not playing by any rules except their own. What dragnet said is not his opinion, it's a fact. Selective assistance.

Some will get bailouts and assistance, others will have to suck it up and play by the old rules. Others may decide to stand up to selective laws and enforcement.

This story is short on background facts. Such as; did the borrower attempt to get a loan mod, or make some other arrangements with the bank. Or did they just ignore the bank statements like she did the door when the Sheriff knocked?

In the linked video the man’s wife does mention this man was the first in his family to “own a home”. I also notice a distinct accent, so it is at least a possibility these folks had one of those notorious sub-prime mortgages. If this is the case, then these folks are no different than a million others that most likely did not qualify in the first place. If on the other hand it is simply an unfortunate turn of events that has lead to this, they need to accept facts, and move on.

Either way, I’m not seeing much in the way of personal responsibility with this pair.

That’s the difference between a true conservative and a crony capitalist (or fascist, or corporatist, or whatever you want to call that type of individual) that masquerades as a conservative. Don’t be fooled by the two.

So what does that mean? That we all should bilk the system? No thanks.

Gotta go. My lunch is going to burn.

Could be moehoward, no argument there. My posts are more about what is happening in this new climate of selective/pick and choose bailouts.

Again, look at my example of a media bailout. I believe this will come. If that is not a line in the sand for every decent person I don't know what will be the line.

Wait a minute...

You suggested it's unethical and un-conservative to not pay your bills and face up....

When your told you're being forced at gun point to bail to bail out and pay the bills for unethical corrupt banksters, fatcorps and their Wall Street insiders, you say this is "childs logic".

You just implied it's conservative for some not to pay their bills and not pay their own debt...Then you say, it's not conservative for others to neglect their bills and not pay their debt....

Which is it Mr. DJmackwow?

If you could be specific.

Landlords and banks need to hire independent enforcers to get rid of the bums and deadbeats who are occupying houses without living up to their side of the arrangement, ie., paying the rent or mortgage.

There are “creative” ways to get rid of bums and deadbeats without scumbag lawyers and judges getting involved.

On the other hand, landlords and banks who fail to do their due diligence probably deserve the irresponsible bums and deadbeats who refuse to leave the houses.

So what’s the point. Does Joe Somebody need a bailout too? How about all those homeowners who are not upside down, have equity, but have their property values ‘unfairly’ impacted by all those Joe Somebody neighbors who require a SWAT team perform a foreclosure eviction? Clearly they need reparations.
