The Tancredo-ite immigration position has yet to demonstrate that it can win an election - any election, anywhere.

Probably so. There is a weird paradox with this issue, at least in Arizona. Every prop that comes down the pike relate to illegal immigration passes, usually with ease.

However, when JD Hayworth ran and lost his seat to Harry Mitchell he ran hard on stopping the Mexican invasion. He lost. I think there was some redistricting that did not help him but nevertheless he lost.

It may just be that this issue isn't or hasn't been important enough to enough people to win elections.

Tancredo and Hayworth were both at their prime political moments in the throws of the boom years of the real estate bubble. The message wasn't resonating so much, people were still drunk on their HELOC money and living the good life. (usually entailing a Mexican landscape, pool guy, nanny, cleaning lady, etc)

One thing is certain, there is going to be a very small political window to reclaim the country. If we fail to do it during that window, the demographics will never be there to do it again.

You said: “no more holding our noses and voting for the lesser of two evils.”

If we don’t “hold our noses” and vote for the lesser of two evils we will be forever doomed to live under the worst of two evils.

On the other hand, we could keep voting for the lesser of two evils and work our way out of the slime we have enshrined today.

There's a pony in there somewhere.

40% of Americans interviewed in a 2009 national Gallup Poll surveys describe their political views as conservative, 35% as moderate, and 21% as liberal. This represents a slight increase for conservatism in the U.S. since 2008, returning it to a level last seen in 2004. The 21% calling themselves liberal is in line with findings throughout this decade, but is up from the 1990s.

Party identification is another story.

What's wrong with this picture? Holding our noses will continue to elect "moderate" Reps who move the party further to the Left and reinforce the moderate position within the party. Who is doing all the compromising? Conservatives.

Tancredo wants to be the Ross Perot of this election. We had the Little Man with the Big Ears to thank for having Bill Clinton as President.

Right, and after Bill we all wised up and put in George. And in eight years, George sealed the border, reduced the deficit, and rolled back Big Government. /s

Name me a time when two conservatives, even if one is a RINO, were running where the Dem did not win.

How can a RINO be a conservative?

For the life of me, I don’t understand what upside Tancredo could have expected from this. Does he want Hickenlooper to be governor?

Republicans did NOT have 8 years. The dems were controlling congress for six of those 8 years.

If the Republicans were worth a crap, he wouldn’t have a reason to run.

If Tancredo wanted to win, instead of just being a spoiler, he should have run in the Republican primary.

Tancredo didn’t have the balls to get into the primary fight.

You illustrate perfectly how the GOP treats conservatives when they do everything asked of them to support the “electable” candidate. Even on a site like FR, it’s always the “conservative’s” fault when a Lib(R) loses to a Lib(D).

Oh I remember that shooting. I didn’t realize that was Chickenlooper’s restaurant. Funny how that isn’t making its way to the front pages!
If I understand Tommy’s reason for splitting the vote, sending the RINOs a message aka running as third party candidate, is his stance on illegal immigration, then he is talking out both sides of his mouth!

He knows he cannot win the Governorship, but knows that he could potentionally split the vote of the Republican candidate thus ensuring a Democratic Governorship again. And for those who don’t know...HICKENLOOPER is for sanctuary cities and would love to turn CO into a sanctuary state.

His actions ensures that CO will not touch the illegal immigration issue for at least four years because the democrats also control both houses in CO

Tancredo is running on the ticket of a different party...an actual conservative party. The idiots are those rino’s who won’t reach out to them. This is what the betrayal by rinos has cost. I will not vote for rinos or any other variety of liberal.

The best chance Tancredo had to win the general election was to enter the Republican party primary.

Sure there are Republican voters who are idiots for not reaching out to the third party candidate Tancredo in the general election, but Tom Tancredo is also an idiot for not entering the Republican party primary.
