Barack Obama's Ground Zero mosque plea will cost him and the Democrats votes
Telegraph ^ | 8.14.10 | William Lowther

Posted on 08/14/2010 7:36:17 AM PDT by libh8er

By charging headlong into the ferocious controversy over the plan to build a mosque near Ground Zero, President Barack Obama may have further damaged Democratic Party prospects in the upcoming mid-term elections.

For while his return to the soaring rhetoric that won him the White House in the first place will be popular with hard-core liberal supporters, it is unlikely to capture the hearts of middle-America this year.

In 2008 Mr Obama was a largely unknown quantity running on the strength of untried ideas and a ringing call for moral superiority. But now all of that has changed.

According to the NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll, 52 per cent of Americans disapprove of Mr Obama's handling of the economy; 45 per cent disapprove of his handling of the Afghanistan war; 40 per cent say the country is worse off since he became president.

Mr Obama has lost the political high ground and on the mosque issue - where emotions are far more likely than logic to win the argument - his stand will not go down well at the voting booths in November.

The President may be right in declaring that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in America, but that is not the question as middle America sees it.

For the majority of Americans this is not an issue of freedom of religion. It is a question of whether or not a mosque should be built within two blocks of Ground Zero, where 3,000 people perished when jetliners hijacked by Muslim extremists were flown into the World Trade Center towers on September 11, 2001.

Really, to be any semblance of “fair” the Bummer ought to be calling for a gaggle of different faiths to all build at or near Ground Zero. He has no business advocating for this one group, specially when an Orthodox church blasted in 9/11 has been trying to rebuild their sanctuary but continuously denied in all kinds of bureaucratic red tape.

And the Dummies are okay with islam’s treatment of women, children, “infidels”, and homosexuals? Wait until sharia law is implemented and homosexuality declared illegal. These people are too stupid for their own good.

Public opinion doesn’t matter and then it matters a lot. Right now he is cranking up his elitism and arrogance to surmount public opinion — get that confidence buzz happening that tells you how right and special you are in spite of public disapproval — and then he will turn around and be shocked and disappointed by the low poll numbers. The elitism and arrogance is a rocket that takes him up to a rarefied atmosphere but only to fall to earth and be like the other earthlings, subject to their opinions (and there are more of them than him). The decision to go with the Mosque was born out of his loyalty to his class (the elites) and their values rather than any concern for “his” citizens. This is just another moment of class solidarity, an aristocracy that has to stare down the rabble, the great unwashed (like the Tea Party.) Again, the greater the opposition to Obama the greater his arrogance and assurances of superiority, which means he will learn nothing and just continue to double down on his bets.

This is a no win game because Obama can’t ever be a regular American — his elitism won’t allow for it. He’ll act it out, put on a show but it is not in his heart. He is scared to be equal and regular and have people given power to be a judge over him.

It’s really both. Sometimes showing itself as political, sometimes as spiritual. There’s no sense in a sniping battle between camps who emphasize one side or the other.

I think the undocumented Muslim has stepped in it this time. If the issue was Republican-Democrat he could probably rely on continued support from Democrats ..... but this is a Muslim-infidel issue. I predict this act of ‘in your face, America’ will be his undoing.

They simply don't care.

Their hatred for their country and themselves is so powerful that blinds them to everything.

Liberalism is a mental disease.

The DUmmies are pointedly ignoring the proposal of the gay bar being built next to the Cordoba mosque/center. They have to, because otherwise their heads would explode.

My husband has never been a fan of O, but when he heard that O has played 44 rounds of golf in the last year and a half, he became livid! What had been once passive dislike became overt disgust. My husband is an avid golfer and realizes how much time 44 rounds represents.

I’m sure there are others out there like my husband who avoid things political who find this to be the height of arrogance.

And the economy is poised for a major collapse!

Agree, there is no political will to stop the spending binge. We are so deep in the hole now that it will take a stunning market collapse to convince people how serious this massive debt problem really is. We dodged an economic bullet not that long ago yet the torrent of spending continues apace. We need this wake up call. As some pundit said this week, a short depression is better than enduring economic pain that may last for a decade or more.

I think the crisis will come if the dims refuse to leave. What will the American people and their armed forces do if this comes to pass.

Yeh, it pretty much blows a whole day with a round on a professional golf course, especially with guests. Of course, some might wish Barack Obama would stay on the golf course all the time, because doing nothing would be better than doing all the negative things he has been doing.

I would have thought that even the loons over at DU would have a problem with this...but no. They’re singing his praises of how “brave” he is to take a stand for freedom of Religion. Disgusting.

The emotion part of their brain took up all the space where logic would reside.

All this crap was in the whitehouse?

Text of President Obama's remarks at the White House Iftar dinner on Ramadan

"Here at the White House, we have a tradition of hosting iftars that goes back several years, just as we host Christmas parties, seders, and Diwali celebrations. These events celebrate the role of faith in the lives of the American people. They remind us of the basic truth that we are all children of God, and we all draw strength and a sense of purpose from our beliefs.

I assumed by all of the applause on the video that the room had to be full of Obama's Muslim pals.

To the muslims, obama was saying "I'm on your side."

To the rest of America, it seems he was saying "I'm gonna do what I want and you can't stop me."

The questions is, can we stop him...or can't we?

I don't know the answer because I don't know what he has done to destroy the U.S. election process.

But whatever the answer, he seems to be operating according to a plan.
