President Barack Obama, speaking last night at the White Houses iftar dinner marking Ramadan, defended plans to build a mosque and Islamic community center near Ground Zero. The nations commitment to religious freedom he said, must be unshakable.
I understand the emotions that this issue engenders. Ground Zero is, indeed, hallowed ground, he said. As WSJ reporters Devlin Barrett and Jonathan Weisman noted, the project has generated opposition from a host of prominent Republicans, including former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Resistance to other mosque-building plans has sprouted around the country, but the symbolism of such a structure in close proximity to Ground Zero has generated a national argument. It was an argument that Obama had steered clear of until last night. (For the text of Obamas remarks, click here.)

This nation was founded on the divine power of the Creator, not on Islam or any other religion, and our founders mostly used Christian princibles in the process.
Christ said ( you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free ) Christianity is not a religion, it is to make us free from religion and all other tyranny.
Religious tolerance being preached by people that demand the removal of Nativity displays at Christmas, want “under God” removed from the pledge of allegiance, ban any prayers at public ceremonies, disband Christian groups in public schools and order the removal of plaques and statues depicting religious figures from public buildings.
At which time any damage to or protesting of the mosque will serve as a convenient prop to illustrate the racism and intolerance of the Tea Party and conservatives.
Sorry, I forgot to put “slip of the tongue” in quotes. I agree with you completely. It doesn’t really matter if he is a practicing Muslim or not, since his actions favor Muslims. — With the exceptions of his support for the gay community, another group he seems fond of. One of these days, he will have to choose between the two.
Schumer may have a real hard time with this one..
If that is true then we can assume that the American people are in favor of the ground zero Mosque and open to such a specious argument?
At this time the memorial to the Flight #93, which was sent to it's doom at Shanksville, Pennsylvania might be taken into account. It is called a "Crescent of Embrace" or like that. #44 translucent markers are part of this memorial. It was #40 innocent passengers that were murdered. #4 were the terrorists. Seems like a giant Islam motife is contained within the memorial. Why the architect is called a Paul Murdoch, only mystifies me even more.
Something rotten is afoot.
I will say the rosary.
But I think that the mosque will never be built.
I don’t think there’s a contractor in the NYC area that would want to build it.
Maybe not all, but quite possibly enough to get him reelected. How many 911 Truthers among Dems and Obama supporters?
Unreportable campaign funds from the Middle East accrued to him through "mini credit cards", available everywhere.
It's not often in life you see an event that can sink the career of a politician. Monica's stained blue dress didn't sink Willie, but this Obama gaff is the gift that will keep on giving. As for 9-11 truthers and other assorted left wing nut bags they were going to vote Obama anyway.
