Rick Scott leads Bill McCollum by 10 points in new Times/Herald/Bay News 9 poll

TALLAHASSEE — Rick Scott leads the Republican primary for governor in a new statewide poll thanks to his massive TV ad buys and the old maxim: It's the economy, stupid.

Despite lingering questions about his business record and a Medicare fraud scandal in his background, the former health care executive has a 10 percentage-point lead over rival Bill McCollum ahead of the Aug. 24 primary in part because voters see Scott as the candidate who can best pull the economy out of the doldrums.

"Whoever's better on the economy is going to win this thing," Ipsos pollster Julia Clark said. "I would be happy to put money on it."

The statewide telephone survey conducted for the St. Petersburg Times, Miami Herald, Bay News 9 and Central Florida News 13 shows Scott with 42 percent support, McCollum 32 percent, 3 percent favoring another candidate and 23 percent undecided, even after the two men and their allied groups have spent a combined $47 million on TV ads.

The poll of 602 registered voters was conducted Aug. 6-10 by Ipsos Public Affairs, a nonpartisan research company based in Washington, D.C. The margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points overall and 5.9 percent for questions asked of Republicans.

The governor's race is a virtual toss-up in November against Democrat Alex Sink and independent Lawton "Bud" Chiles, with many voters not sure how they'll vote.

Scott leads Sink, 30 percent to 29 percent, and Sink leads McCollum, 30 percent to 26 percent, with high numbers of undecideds (26 percent and 29 percent respectively).

Chiles, namesake son of the late two-term Democratic governor, gets 14 percent in the Scott-Sink matchup and 12 percent if McCollum is the GOP nominee, drawing votes equally from Democrats and Republicans, the poll shows.

A house divided cannot stand. Any fractures will allow the enemy to win. Dusting, as the wife say’s, is done one object at a time, with a clean cloth, and not a broom.

He is NOT a crook. My spouse has worked with him and knows him well. The HCA deal was Hillary’s vendetta because Rick Scott did not go along with her healthcare bill.

The Medicare billing regulations were created so the gov’t could find errors - extremely confusing. (sort of like the IRS, you call 5 diff reps with a question, you’ll get 5 diff answers.)

The man knows healthcare probably better than any other person in the country and is a superb, ethical businessman.

Friends....those who support Scott are in denial of his of connection to medicare corruption. They are as foolish and niave as the morons who voted for Obama....

As for this bogus poll...here’s one to counter it....From the Chamber of Commerce:
Bill McCollum has a 12 point advantage over Rick Scott on the Republican primary ballot for Governor (45% to 33%). Another 20% of voters are undecided.

MIAMI HERALD NAKED POLITICS BLOG: Chamber Poll: Bill McCollum by 12 (?!)

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/nakedpolitics/2010/08/chamber-poll-bill-mccollum-by-12-.html

So the Herald/Times has a poll showing Rick Scott’s up by 10 percentage points over Bill McCollum.

Comes now the Chamber of Commerce, which shows quite the opposite: McCollum by 12. Sure, the pollster works for McCollum and the chamber has endorsed McCollum. But numbers are numbers. Methodologies vary (like vs. registered). And there’s something in the water.

From the analysis:

Bill McCollum has regained the lead in Florida’s Republican primary race for Governor. In McLaughlin and Associates’ most recent poll, Bill McCollum has a 12 point advantage over Rick Scott on the Republican primary ballot for Governor (45% to 33%). Another 20% of voters are undecided. Bill McCollum leads among important demographic groups such as moderates (48%/27%), conservatives (43%/36%), white voters (45%/33%), Hispanic voters (52%/21%), men (45%/33%), women (45%/32%), voters under age 55 (43%/32%) and voters over age 55 (46%/33%).

TWO OTHER POLLS HAVE MCCOLLUM leading by 4 points

Scott will lose in either the primary or the general.

Folks do not vote for this Rick Scott.

Read for yourselves and get the facts on Scott's healthcare corruption. His company was fined $1.7 billion dollars for medicare fraud.

WHO ARE YOU RICK SCOTT????

Scott's campaign claims that he is pro-life. As one freeper points out, Scott's company profits from performing abortions...

Here is Scott's latest lawsuit, this lawsuit will cost him the race

Mystery deposition puts Rick Scott on the defensive

A google search of "rick scott medicare fraud" will show what a crook this guy is.

People should study the Scott campaign. There is a lot to be learned. The man is doing something that conventional wisdom would indicate is impossible.

Reminds me of Ross Perot!

Thank You!

I have gone pretty deep into this deal and have learned much of the same.

After “Hillary Care” was defeated, the Clintons came after many private Hospitals that opposed her for revenge, and by no means not just HCA.

Bil McCollum actually gave a speech on the floor denouncing the attacks, and effectively defending HCA. (Now of coarse he nuances this as not the case)

Its frustrating to see the number of Freepers who keep posting “Do your reaserch”, who apparently wouldn’t know research if it landed in their lap.

It is little different than the people who say Rush, Beck, Fox, etc. are racist liars but when pressed for specifics, have absolutely nothing but “I read or heard he said...”

Again,
I am not necessarily a Scott Supporter. I am just looking for the truth of the matter.

And there has been absolutely nothing but conjecture at this point posted on this thread to support the contention that Rick Scott is a crook.
