Pressure builds on Congress to junk 'nightmare' tax rule

1099 requirement buried in health-care law riles up small businesses . Bipartisan support is building for a repeal of a little-known tax rule in President Barack Obama's signature health-care law that has drawn the ire of small businesses around the country...

Starting in 2012, businesses will be required to file a 1099 tax form each time they spend more than $600 a year to buy goods or services from another company.

The 1099 rule is not entirely new. Under long-standing law, businesses have to file tax forms when they buy services from individual-owned businesses or partnerships. The new law extends the requirement to cover the purchase of any goods from any type of supplier.

Buy one airline ticket at $600, for example, and a business would have to file a form with the IRS and send one to the airline itself. Ditto if a small company buys $600 worth of sandwiches from Subway, spends $600 a year for Starbucks coffee or...

$600 per year; not just the one time event of $600 plus.

Didn't we conclude that the fact the Democrats didn't read this bill strongly suggests that quite a few of them are functionally illiterate.

We are all pretty sure they didn't reach adulthood that way, but over the years they've done something that has destroyed their ability to read hence their avoidance of the practice and the creation of a series of excuses to hide the fact they really can't read.

Nancy Pelosi is a good case in point. We know she's used botox to the extent she can no longer detect that other people are ANGRY or DISSATISFIED WITH HER. But could heavy botox use combined with a little cocaine here and there, with maybe some methamphetamine result in the destruction of the ability to read?

I think it's worth a major study ~ to be financed by a NEW REPUBLICAN CONGRESS, and if found to be a correct hypothesis, we should immediately implement laws that REQUIRE that all candidates for public office demonstrate an ability to read.

Whaddaya bet some twit democrat staffer stuck this provision in the National Socialist Healthcare Bill?

There were no committee hearings.

Your Congressman did not read the bill.

Hussein did not read the bill.

It is time to review why our founders risked all.

The Rats didn’t read it and didn’t care what was in it. John Conyers said as much. Why in hell anyone would vote for a person with as little regard for them is beyond me.

If this goes through it would be just one more reason to retire and close the doors before I had originally planned to do so. Also, I will not be conscripted into providing ObamaCare services ... I will not comply with either of these Big Government mandates. It’s likely I’ll drop out and become more active in the Resistance.

The FairTax would stop all of this nonsense.

A noose around the neck of every congresscritter who voted for this (or not) would stop all this nonsense too. Just keep it applied for at least an hour after they quit dancing.

But it will never happen. The sheeple rule.

America -- a great idea, didn't last.

The amount of $600 has been around ever since I can remember.

It never gets indexed. When placed on the books it was effectively a much higher threshold because the value of the dollar was so much less.

It would have been like filing a form on not much more than a $100 transaction based on the value when it started.

Govt nickel and dime-ing us to death by paperwork.

Don’t comply! They can’t put 300million people in prison. F—k em. They want to make everyone a criminal, because you can’t lord over law-abiding citizens.

Govt nickel and dime-ing us to death by paperwork.

More like, guaranteeing that all except the Entitlement Class will be a tax cheat. Surely, there will be felonies associated with any failure to document the transation exceeding $600 over the course of a year. With felony charges come loss of voting and gun rights.

The FairTax would stop all of this nonsense.

The monstrosity known as the federal income tax code along with is associated thug the IRS can be permanently eliminated by passing the Fair Tax Act(HR25/S296). The Fair Tax will replace all federal income taxes with a national sales tax and abolish the IRS! Fair Tax ping!

Small businesses have historically sent out 1099’s for individual-owned businesses or partnerships ( perhaps dozens per year ).

Now they may have to send out hundreds per year ( one each to the IRS and to the other Corporations ).

Airline flights , etc. that are a real businesses expense will have to be 1099’ed. Tons of new paper work and storage costs for all three parties ( small business, IRS agents, and those corporations ).

Late fees and IRS pentalties also may apply.

I’m surprised that with all of Obama’s business management experience he didn’t focus like a laser on this obvious blunder when he was critically studying the senate bill.

They have given us a simple solution to this already. If you pay by credit card, you won't have to file 1099’s.

Oh, didn't you know that all your credit card transactions will now be reported to the government?
