Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country,"

Islam is a theoCRACY, not a religion.

“The contribution of Muslims to the United States are too long to catalog ...”
“What is he talking about?”

They gave us a great line in the Marine Corps song, the part about Tripoli.

And up until about 700 AD, they were great scientists.

Sounds like govt endorsement of a specific religion.

I was thinking the same thing.

A truly great moment for W. Obama will never come close to anything like that.

Does anyone doubt for a minute that if the roles were reversed and say in 2001 some Christian terrorists went into Dearborn, MI and slaughtered a few thousand muslims and now some evangelicals were trying to build a new megachurch right next to the scene of the crime that Obama dn all the others on the left would be protesting loudly?? Anyone think obama would be all about religious freedom?

And notice that according to Obama muslims can build a huge mosque wherever they feel like but jews in Israel can’t build some new homes on their own land. And not only can’t they, but Obama feels the need to take a public stand on the issue and criticize and shun Israel in front of the world. Anyone see the disconnect. I hope jewish voters are paying attention.

I don’t know what can be done to stop this. W should have Ground Zero declared some Natl Memorial akin to Arlington or something. The GOP should pledge to pass a bill if they take back Congress doing that and maybe that will federalize the issue and allow Congress to step in and stop it. Dare Obama to veto it.

DU praising the prez for this stand.

He's trying to get the attention off of what Gibbs said about the far left (that they need drug-testing). They have been furious over that the last few days and there were umpteen threads about it over there.

Interestingly, I don't think this ploy is going to work. Many over there even on the Mosque thread are saying they are deeply disappointed that Obama has not done enough for them.

Keep it up Obama, and there will never be a Democrat re-elected.

I'm starting to wonder if Obama isn't a Republican plant meant to send the Democrats into the desert for 40 years.

Dumb move. Most people in NY oppose the mosque.

“Yes, the 9/11 attacks were horrific, but they were more about optics than actual harm,” wrote the diarist Something the Dog Said at Daily Kos. “The economy was already taking a hit before the Twin Towers fell. The reaction of the nation to seeing two major buildings in New York fall on T.V. has boosted the attack out of proportion. While the loss of even a single life is to be condemned and the devastation these deaths caused the families of those killed, more than this number of teens are killed every year in car crashes. These are also tragic losses but we do not make the kind of high profile issue of it that the 9/11 attacks are.”

Republicans need to start doing something to keep Obama from bringing Sharia law into this country. There is another thread where this Muslim builder dude states he wants Sharia law

i have NO IDEA why Obama would a) step into the middle of this; and b) support the mosque being built there. This is downright stupid.

Is he that clueless of what happens when islamic cultists become the majority?

Obama is not clueless of anything. He is deliberately doing everything you see including pushing Islam. The question isn't whether he knows it, but rather why he and his RAT supporters think he can get away with it because they show no signs of holding back on their agenda.

President Barack Obama on Friday forcefully endorsed building a mosque near ground zero, saying the country's founding principles demanded no less.

Notice the timing ... Friday PM in August. Was the timing of this planned ... you bet. Liberal pundits (those not on vacation) will be on Sunday AM talk shows with their talking point marching orders.

I seem to remember that Obama took an oath of office to protect and defend this country from all enemies from within and without who seek to destroy this country. Seems he has forgotten the oath he took.

This is incitement.

Obama is poking people in the eye to get some angry reaction that can be used to discredit his opponents.

Stay calm and respond.

If Barack Obama cared about the First Amendment and its guarantee of “freedom of religion” he would have made a speech about how Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black paved the way for its erosion with his infamous opinion in the “Everson” case from 1947.

Black, a lawyer for the anti-Roman Catholic KKK of the 1920’s, injected the phrase “separation of church and state” into jurisprudience and began the gradual loss of First Amendment freedoms for Christians of all denominations and Americans in general.

There’s a speech for you Mr. President.

But seriously this mosque is considered by many to not be a house of worship seeking freedom in the United States, but a house of worship seeking to destroy freedom in the United States up to an including our First Amendment freedom of religion.

Many say this mosque is more a victory memorial for the terrorist attack of 9-11 than a peaceful place of worship.

And there seems to be some political and financial connections to this mosque that lead to the Middle East and come back to political figures here in the United States.

They need to be thoroughly investigated.
