Former San Diego radio personality Dr. Laura Schlessinger finds herself in yet another pot of hot water. Yesterday on her national radio program, the outspoken host made what many are labeling racist remarks, and repeatedly used the n-word.
Her words: "Black guys use it all the time. Turn on HBO and listen to a black comic, and all you hear is nigger, nigger, nigger. I don't get it. If anybody without enough melanin says it, it's a horrible thing. But when black people say it, it's affectionate."
Later, the on-air discussion with a caller identified as a black woman went like this:CALLER: Is it OK to say that word? Is it ever OK to say that word?
DR. LAURA: It depends how it's said. Black guys talking to each other seem to think it's okay.
CALLER: But you're not black, they're not black, my husband is white.
DR. LAURA: Oh, I see, so a word is restricted to race. Got it. Can't do much about that.

It’s not okay for me to say the “N” word, even when discussing the use of the “N” word, but I can make a HIP-HOP record and video shouting the “N” word and other vulgarities and sell millions of them and nobody says a thing..............
She did not hear what this caller's was saying, she chose to go off on tangent about the "N" word and did not address the caller concern at all. She made her point and now she looks like a jerk. If she had seen her caller as a person in pain asking for help, instead of trying to display her "smarts" she would not be in this position.
Your mistake was APOLOGIZING, Laura!!!
You are spot-on, as speech is now forbidden just because some vote-panderers decided they could keep people at their mercy/dependence by doing so.
A lot of Lawyers live off the designations of offensive words/acts, which is just another "follow the money" operation.
People apologizing when they are right is like paying the kidnapper ransom.
One victim pays and then the kidnappers multiply.
You get it! Thanks for the post!

I "wondered" when they found her mother dead in a crappy apartment not far from her luxurious Beverly Hills. note: Even I know you are supposed to take care of mom. (Don't need a Dr. to know that)
Then she did some other stuff, I can't recall. (was Jewish, wasn't Jewish, etc.)
now she's a rapper.
Come on Laura, retire already.
:-)!

What ever happened to “Sticks and stones can break my bones, but names can never hurt me”?
I don’t give a damn what anyone calls me unless it’s coming from someone I care for. Then I know something is wrong. Other than that, it’s just words.
I'd love to be in a position to tell some black people "I sometimes use the 'N'-word when describing a few people." After they go flash the Race card and go ballistic, I'd xpand by saying "'N'-words like "Nitwit" or "Nincompoop".
I agree with her point.
And IMO, the n word, is more a description of the way a person behaves and that persons attitude, than it is based on the color of ones skin.
Good point by Laura. If cracker, honkey and other other ethnic slur is OK, what should any group be off limits? I think we are approaching the point when it will again be OK to say anything you damn well please as the racist charge is so overused it not longer registers or has an impact.
And nowadays, both the words "fag" and "cigarette" are considered to be "offensive."
I thought of that same sketch myself.....that was probably the greatest SNL episode of all time.
Only Lenny Bruce could straighten this out...
Why don’t white people go around calling each other “crackers.”
to go DR Laura!! Unlike Obama I’d say she has a set of cajones (hope I spelled that correctly. She made a very good point and got it across.
BTW I don’t think you could see them in any of her pics.
But using “white nigger” is ok. And what about cracker, honky?
I had a conversation with a black friend about this very thing. I asked him if the ‘N’ word is vulgar/racist? He said that when it comes from whites it is. I said, well if it’s so vulgar and blacks get upset about it and if whites say it, why do blacks continue to use the word? He said because they use it, they’ve turn it from a word of slander to a word of empowerment. I looked at him and when, ‘Huh?’. I told him that there is strong evidence to suggest that if it wasn’t for blacks constantly using the word and ‘reminding’ people of it, that the word would have disappeared into history long ago. Blacks need to realize that by ‘empowering themselves’, they shoulder a greater responsibility for this word still being around. My 10 year old nephew would doubtless never have known about this word if he hadn’t heard it accidentally while watching a black rap video and then asking my sister about it.
