“Plus a Mexican roofer once told my buddy he prefers living in Ohio because you cant buy beer in the 7-elevens here.”

(L) There is a move on to sell booze in certain Giant Eagle locations. I believe there are a couple that already have it. But it’s a slow process. We’ve had state stores forever and those employees don’t want to give up their jobs. And I suppose if we did have liquor sold in ordinary stores, beer distributors will eventually go under too.
It would be nice if we could sell beer, wine and liquor in supermarkets, drugstores and so on. I’ve been to cities and states where it’s done. Really good selections and the prices are consistently lower than here in PA. The claim is that by having the state control the booze, we would have fewer drunk driving and other crimes committed under the influence. I don’t think that’s happened here in PA.
A Giant Eagle near me sells beer now. In the legal fiction of a separate restaurant that just happens to be in the middle of the supermarket.
That I can handle.
I oppose selling the state stores cause our politicians in Harrisburg would just use the big pile of cash to enrich themselves and their cronies, buy votes, and convert a yearly revenue into debt through a bond issue of some sort.
Does anyone doubt that?
