Americans grim over economy before elections: poll

(Reuters) - Pessimism over the economy is rising and the grim mood could hurt both parties in the November 2 congressional elections, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released on Wednesday.

Almost two-thirds of Americans believe the economy will worsen before it gets better, up from 53 percent who felt that way in January, the poll found.

Nearly six in 10 of those surveyed said the country is headed in the wrong direction, a percentage that has held steady in NBC/WSJ polling throughout the year.

I’ve been out of work for two years. Worked a contract job for three months this year , but was let go after company suffered a bad quarter. I’m a medical device engineer and last looked in seven states on a job board and could not find one job I was qualified for.

Anyhow, not on the gov’t dole and don’t want it.

Lucky I saved for a rainy day.

Polls show: "a continued sour mood among voters toward the direction of the country (58% called the nation “on the wrong track”), the state of the economy (64% predicted the economy hasn’t hit bottom yet and will continue to decline), and the performance of Congress (72% disapprove)."

...and the grim mood could hurt both parties.

The word both means that there are only two parties, and since seats will therefore will go to one or the other, they cannot both be hurt.

The MSM would do better in its Dem shilling if it was not so hapless at it.

I'm not sure how this is possible.

[grim mood could hurt both parties ]

How does it hurt both parties? That’s ludicrous.

Their heart's not really in it, is it?

Wait'll after the election. It'll be all GOP demonization all the time. Their heart'll be in that, you betcha.

Lucky I saved for a rainy day.

Good for you!

I know fellow electrician friends, hey, a highly skilled trade, who are just devastated by lack of work here in the blue state of Oregon.

Wife, kids, mortgage, bills, and no work!

I'm lucky (?) to have a state school district job!

engineering background makes for great sales?

I know engineering degreed people who are in sales by choice..doing better base salary wise now, than a year ago; as being picked off from (in this case) smaller well known public companies by the BIGGER telecom suppliers who are presently sitting strong financially & preparing for the future..and I mean big pay hikes.

wetgundog - Good for you! I am sorry to hear you have been out of work so long. You are what this country needs. No dole. No bankruptcy. Just keep on keeping on. Thank you!

Thanks for the tip! I will explore. I think I would make a great sales person or a technical rep as I deal with outside vendors and physicians all the time.

Oh, by the way...FUBO!

I wondered where all the stories about high gas prices, children showing up to school hungry and the plight of the homeless have gone. I know the homeless are out there as they have increased dramatically all over an uber lib town I visit for work in Massachusetts -- yet no stories.

I guess the media couldn't run those stories when Congress and the presidency were all democrat. I bet you're right---they will use them in 2011, but will provide Barack "don't bug me, I'm on my vacation" Obama with an alibi.

the grim mood

Good old Reuters. It's merely a grim "mood." Not that the reality is grim, no, not at all.

Don’t you just love it how the old guard media fools try to spin this as an “anti-incumbent” mood, rather than say, an anti-those-who-are-in-power-and-have-f@@ked-up-everything mood? You know, like, say, the Rats who’ve turned everything they’ve touched to sh!t since they’ve been in control of Congress for the last four years.

But heavens no, the old guard media could never bring themselves to mention anything like that, now could they?

"could hurt both parties"

Unless the chips fall the same, I'm wondering how two out of two get hurt.

This is blatant spin to paint Republicans into the same corner the Dems are currently in.

The good thing about the MSM...The Democrats believed their glowing good press. They will all get a surprise in November.
