Palin Supports Law of the Sea Treaty (Palin's Greatest Hits 2008)
AIPNews ^ | Oct 15, 2008 | Keith Porter

Posted on 08/10/2010 5:29:17 PM PDT by pissant

For those who don't know, the Law of the Sea Treaty was rejected by Ronald Reagan, but revived by GW Bush. It constitutes a HUGE grant of power over most of the earth's surface to the United Nations. It also creates the first global taxing authority, with power vested in an unelected bunch of international bureaucrats.

I'm not up to speed on the LOST stuff, but in her letter she was trying to protect US rights to potential rights I guess. It wasn't like she was a globalist or a member of The Pentaverate

No, she’s not a raving globalist, best I can tell. But LOST is an evil that must never be visited upon our sovereignty.

First LOST and now the sovereignty shredding ICC?

What's next--amnesty for illegal aliens?

That three sentence article at the original link is sort of misleading when you read the letter Sarah Palin wrote at the link you provided in post #4.

I would add that as a national figure, Palin may want to change her position on this.

Again, I would love to hear her, or anyone else, tell the UN and the international community to take a hike when it comes to US soveriegnty.

Still pissing into the wind, boys?

You should get a better shtick! This dog won't hunt for you, either! Your dogged determination is profoundly misguided and arbitrary. She is the leader in the race, without even running, and you can't stand to see her lead!

“I’m writing to express my strong support for ratification” is hardly ambiguous.

LOST needs to get, well...lost. Our power lies in our complete naval superiority.

Obama's opinion isn't the most important here. The United States signed the 1994 Agreement on Implementation, but the Senate has not ratified the UN Convention. For me, this confirms what a bad idea it is:

On January 13, 2009, speaking at her Senate confirmation hearing as nominee for United States Secretary of State, Senator Hillary Clinton said that ratification of the Law of the Sea Treaty would be a priority for her.

“It’s the notion that she’s the best we can do in 2012.”

The way I’m looking at the potential 2012 possibilities, the pickin’s are really slim. The R’s have NO presidential bench that is conservative with national stature, except maybe Palin.

The Bush guys spent eight years making sure that conservatives did not get out of primaries in Senate and Governor races. The result is the awful set of candidates for a year when R’s should be really competitive. It will, as a result, be very difficult to nominate an electable conservative in 2012. And, it will be very difficult to elect a non-conservative because of turnout issues.

The problem is: If you are a conservative, you have no national profile or you are damaged goods. If you have a national profile and may be electable, you are not a conservative.

I have my doubts about Palin as electable material. But compared to the other guys running, she looks pretty good.

The primaries in ‘12 will be more evenly conducted. I assume you will endorse her should she get the nomination?

If she comes out foursquare against amnesty of any sort, I will.

Not really. It depends on the poll. Also with someone who is in the news ALL the time it is amazing that not only she leads by very little in some polls but she loses to other Republicans in other polls.

The LOST Treaty remains unsigned for a good reason. It is a bad Treaty for the United States.

I am quite sure Obama likes it.

I admit Sarah may have made a mistake when it came to LOST, but that doesn’t mean she’s evil or stupid or not conservative. After all, she’s only human, and we all make mistakes.

(Duncan) Hunter has said that the United Nations is ineffective. He strongly opposes the Law of the Sea Treaty because he feels it helps the United Nations and contrasts with a precedent set by Ronald Reagan. In regards to the Treaty, Hunter stated, “Rest assured no treaty that infringes on the sovereignty of the United States, or further empowers the United Nations, will get anything but a trip to the waste basket in a Hunter Administration.”
