A New York City judge has granted bail for a flight attendant accused of cursing out a passenger on an airplane public-address system, grabbing some beer from the galley and exiting on an emergency slide.

Steven Slater is charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and trespassing.

Defense attorney Howard Turman asked a judge in Queens Tuesday to release him without bail.

The judge instead set bail at $2,500. Slater smiled slightly as he was escorted into the courtroom.

Are you freaking KIDDING??? He is a PUNK KID who was having GAY SEX when the police came to get him!! Geesh...he doesn’t deserve one thing!

Including jail, IMHO.

I think his employer has cause to sue for the cost, if any, of replacing that ramp and the two beers. He's a bad employee, not a criminal.

No, I didn’t miss that. D’uh. I can read and I check facts before I opine. I’m also aware of the seriousness of any disruption on an airplane. He went too far with his tantrum when he violated the purpose of deploying the exit slide. He will have a well-deserved trial.

Most terrorists and mass murderers would agree!! Gee, why are Slater's precious FEELINGS so important he has to be an attention hoor about it? And, people applaud? That's crazy! This was real life, not a movie.

I never said he shouldn’t pay for his transgressions. I’m all about taking responsibility for one’s actions.

But I can certainly see the humor in it. He got fed up with serving nasty people, snapped, said what needed to be said, and made a dramatic exit. He didn’t endanger or hurt anyone. In fact, in light of so many people going off and shooting up their workplace or murdering their families I think he handled his fed up moment with humor and panache.

I would have applauded him, had I been on that plane. People need to be told they are being @$$holes by service people. “The customer is always right” is bunk. I like his sense of humor and I like his style. He made me smile. He’ll pay his fine or whatever and go on with his life. I hope he gets to host a reality show featuring service industry horror stories.

So, you and the others adoring Slater do not care about airport/airplane security nor about persons in responsibile positions behaving responsibly. Americans have forgotten the difference between real life and movies/TV. Your hero has been charged with multiple felonies.

And aren’t you glad you’re retired?!!

I don’t understand how Slater was able to exit the plane as he did, walk across the tarmac, enter the parking area where his car was and drive away... without being apprehended. And this happened in New York, where security should be on high alert at all times??

I also think it would be interesting to know what happened on the plane during and immediately after his departure. Who took charge, what did they say and do, etc.

He’s a screwball who let down a lot of people. Yes, he’ll need a good defense but, in my opinion, the state needs an even better prosecutor. And I worked airlines too, CSA at counter and gate.

People need to be told they are being @$$holes by service people.

No, they don't. He had problems with these passengers from the start of the flight. If it was a personality conflict, he should have asked another FA to deal with them or report to his crew chief. Once the situation gets personalized, it leads to trouble. Also, good customer service starts with the attitude of the one providing service, not the customer. So, I also disagree with your assertion that “The customer is always right” is bunk.

My hero and the others hero went ballistic on the passenger who would not follow the standard safety docking instructions. Therefore, he was protecting the passengers who were...........

He merely exited via the emergency slide because the front of the plane was clogged with passengers typically scrambling to grab their overhead baggage and exit the plane.

In my humble opinion, any passengers in a hurry should have the option of exiting via the slide anyway........
