I’m DFW too, and it is nice to be able to get to everything without a plane. I love Las Vegas, but you can make that with 2 people non-stop taking turns or 1 person with a 1 night stay.

Alaska aircraft have to be rugged, the Beaver is the best up here.

"Beaver is the best"??

Is that an "inside Alaska" joke?

Please explain.

Prayers up for victims & families.

I don't know the exact statistics, but intuitively it seems as if an Alaskan faces a significantly higher risk of being killed in an air accident than an American living in the "lower 48." That's because of the greater reliance on air travel, what with greater distances between places and a relative lack of ground transportation. In addition, the air travel is riskier on average because of extreme weather conditions and the mountainous topography.

Condolences to the surviving relatives and friends of those killed in this crash.

Clarence “Kelly” Johnson, writing in his memoirs, “More Than My Share”, stated that pilot and innovator Wiley Post’s plane was terribly nose-heavy. WP wanted more horsepower because of so many short runways and (as you noted) mountainous terrain, and CKJ couldn’t offer any advice on fixing the problem, other than going back to the original engine for that design. :’)

FOIA and you get the whole thing.

You want to listen to hours of banter and boring stuff, or when you seek the cause do you want to listen to the relevant parts. Up to you.

And you do know, not all aircraft have CVRs, right?

Yes I know that, but you’re wrong. You will not get AK261’s or USAir 427’s no matter what you do. You’ll get a transcript, but not the recording. People have tried, a lot, and it’s not done. It’s entirely up to the FAA/company’s discretion and they figured out that it’s bad for business and put a stop to it.

NTSB makes the call.

Not FAA.

What is your point, again, or do you have one?

The point is that you will not get the actual recordings, I don’t care what alphabet agency you’re talking about dealing with.

Got it.

I won’t bother you with facts.

Unless you can get AK261’s onboard actual recording, or any other unreleased ones, your words mean nothing. Nobody gets them, period.

If you manage to, I’ll be in awe. I think we both know it’s impossible though, so I’m not sure why you’re going on about it.
