Jewish activists support ground zero mosque

A group of Jewish activists and community leaders support a planned mosque near the ground zero site of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, and said opponents, including America's leading Jewish civil rights group, are perpetuating misunderstandings about Islam.

Rabbi Arthur Waskow, of the Philadelphia-based Shalom Center, joined about 30 other religious leaders and Jewish activists Thursday at the spot where the Cordoba Initiative hopes to build an Islamic center that will include a mosque, an athletic center, a culinary school and art studios. Waskow says the mosque will help people learn more about Islam.

"Whenever there has been bloodshed allegedly in the name of one tradition or another, it's necessary to say, 'That's not what that tradition is about,'" Waskow, 76, said. "The Cordoba Initiative will keep saying that is not what Islam is about."

The mosque and community center would be located two blocks from the site of the September 11, 2001, attacks. SoHo Properties, a partner in the effort, purchased the property for nearly $5 million. Early plans call for a 13-story, $100 million Islamic center, of which the mosque would be a part.

Big-name Republicans including former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich have criticized the plan, saying it is provocative for a mosque to be built so close to a spot where Islamic terrorists killed thousands. Former Rep. Rick Lazio, a Republican running for governor of New York, has questioned where funding for the project is coming from.

'Center will be dedicated to tolerance' The Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish civil rights group known for advocating religious freedom, also opposes the project.

These "Jews" have abandoned their Faith and are appeasing the Muslims. These are probably part of the 80% of American Jews who voted for N0bama back in 08. What has the world come to??

Fruit Loop Jews whose parents probably did way too much acid in the 60s and they started believing that “G-d is Dead” bullsh&T. I'm not sure if LSD related brain-fry is hereditary, but it sure seems that way.

Idiots going by handy name, but idiots just the same.

If I wasn't living in the same boat, I would enthusiastically invoke Darwin as their judge, and pay no further attention.

Waskow, an anti-war activist who has criticized Israel and lobbied for an independent Palestinian state, said he was disappointed by the ADL's opposition of the Islamic center.

This guy would have been one of the first to be gassed back in 43.

Most American Jews don’t even believe in God anymore much less attend services. Trust me the most active student club at Brandeis is “students for justice in palestine”. American Jews make up half the people at every pro-terror rally. Theres probably more Jews in “palestine” organizations then Arabs or muslims.

...flipping us the bird is somehow “tolerance”?

Let’s build a big church on an Indian burial ground and see if those people think it promotes “tolerance”.

Let’s build a Nazi Monument in Auschwitz and see what the Jews think.

Unreal. Just unreal! These people are LEADING US!

:(:(:(:(

How come is it that the so-called "anti-war" people are the ones that bring on increased danger of war due to appeasing enemies?

The only "Palestinian state" that Palestinians (a constructed identity) will accept is their one-state solution where all of the Levant is under the Islamic caliphate and there is no Jewish state. This was the case back in 1947 (the year the UN failed and never recovered) and is still the case.

Their word should mean ‘zilch’. There were plenty of other ethnicities that were slaughtered and those families and the majority of the nation SAY NO to this abomination. Who is listening to these JINOs anyway? Well if they are wealthy I guess that question answers itself doesn’t it?

Yes...they are part of the 80% and refuse to see that they are being laughed at by the Muslims (especially now). And they refuse to see that the Muslims want them dead.

The world has come to following the idiocy of Europe. Radical Islam has pretty much gotten itself on the road to controlling Europe in a few decades. The radical branch of Islam must be disproven and punished. Not appeased. They want to take over Europe.

Second, just for the sake of common sense, why does a mosque have to be that big?!!!

The humongous mosque is clearly more than needed to serve the Moose in the area now. The only answer is that it is intended as a draw to make the immediate vicinity of Ground Zero a “mecca” for Mooses.
