Have you driven a Chevy Volt
The headline is a play an early 80s Ford car ad campaign. Have you driven a Ford. . .lately? was the tag line and it's instructive when considering Chevrolet's new Volt, the car that'll make GM a "leader" in green vehicle technology and create green blue collar jobs. The answer to Have you driven a Chevy Volt . . .lately? is most likely to be no.
I really love cars, and it pains me to criticize a vehicle, since my premise is all cars are good, some are better than others. Plus I know people at GM who love cars and worked diligently on this car, even if they thought it an answer to a question no one asked. While the Volt looks like smart product planning and business management to the Obama regime - people who don't know or care about cars - unfortunately, it fails on several levels.
Start with a $41,000 list price and with the $7500 Federal tax credit it drops to $33,500. I would even speculate that California, with a $20 billion deficit, could even be willing to spend money it doesn't have by kicking in a state hybrid vehicle credit to shave the price slightly. Regardless, tax credits mean more of what we don't need: government spending.

If you were looking at such cars, and wanted a Chevy, I cannot imagine why you’d buy a Volt over a Cruze.
Were it not a Chevy, the Cruze seems to be quite a car. It’s nearly half the price of a Volt, and if you bought a Volt, you’d never get the difference back.

Except to be trendy and hip and faux “green”...
This “car” is the perfect representation of the Obama presidency. It sums it up perfectly.
My understanding is that when the battery is done, the car is done, and they last about 100,000 miles.
I have also understood that the batteries are not recycled. They contain rare and toxic elements that must be disposed of in other ways such as burying them.
The Cruze looks like an Opel and they just rebadged it. The bigger Saturn was an Opel too as was that one Caddy.
You will see every city and town in America buying Volts for city use with govt $$. I would bet since 2009 - Ford has not sold many cop cars. They are all GM and Chrysler now.
What! Burying them? WTF!
I bet China will recycle em in some toxic way.
The new Buick Regal is an Opal too.
Ford has a new police package Taurus ready to go.
Chevy also has a new police Caprice ready to go, based on the G8 rear drive platform.
They're worried about capacity constraints and bottlenecks.
The Cruze has been for sale under other names overseas for a couple of years. It’s a Daewoo.

Is it? Yup - here it is. Nice.

Really sucks because GM was making progress and some of the Opel stuff is quite good.
Will they import them from Germany or like the UAW thug goons slap em together? If UAW subhumans assembled them - they will be sh*t with coke bottles in the doors.
The Taurus is nice. The G8 is also nice but no GM for me. The GTO was made in Australia by Holden. Did they do the same thing with the G8 or did the subhuman UAW goons assemble them?
In answer to the question, no.
Oh. I read the wiki and it said Opel did most of the engineering on it.
... but not a single one ( at least I didn't ) of him actually sitting in it. "The press."
Yep. These batteries are not “environmentally friendly” at all. Also, from what I have read, the cost of replacing these batteries exceeds the value of the car at the time the battery would need to be replaced (@ approximatley 100,000 miles), so they are not replaced.
Screw safety. This car is so enviromentaly correct if you buy the farm in this jewel it will be an acceptable and noble sacrifice.
