Yep. These batteries are not “environmentally friendly” at all. Also, from what I have read, the cost of replacing these batteries exceeds the value of the car at the time the battery would need to be replaced (@ approximatley 100,000 miles), so they are not replaced.

Lithium is worth enough that the batteries will be melted down or have the lithium chemically extracted, and the lithium used for more batteries. But that isn’t cheap.
