KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Patricia Neal, the willowy, husky-voiced actress who won an Academy Award for 1963's "Hud" and then survived several strokes to continue acting, died on Sunday. She was 84. Neal had lung cancer and died at her home in Edgartown, Mass., on Martha's Vineyard, said longtime friend Bud Albers of Knoxville.
Neal was already an award-winning Broadway actress when she won her Oscar for her role as a housekeeper to the Texas father (Melvyn Douglas) battling his selfish, amoral son (Paul Newman).

She was an amazing woman. I admire her strength. May she rest in peace. Prayers for her loved ones.
Patricia Neal played John-Boy Walton’s mom in the Waltons pilot movie “The Homecoming”. Yes, Richard Thomas was John-Boy.
May God hold her in the palm of His hand.
I loved her as an actress-—Jeeze, I hope she wasn’t a liberal. I remember her in “The Fountainhead”. (there aren’t many more actresses and actors I can stand finding out are liberal.....I boycott them when I find out they are enemies of this country while being the recipients of its benefits!)
Mark my words, hollywood will do a remake of it soon and probably re-write it and star an imbecile in it.
“In Harm’s Way” as Lt. Maggie Haynes with John Wayne... good movie.
The Day the Earth Stood Still
One of the best classic science fictions!!
“I remember her fondly.”
As do I. I remember most her valiant fight against paralysis from her first and major stroke. That was one gutsy woman. May G-D receive her into glory.
She played in mother again in the surprisingly good made-for-TV All Quiet On The Western Front -- the one with Ernest Borgnine as Kat.
“Klaatu barada nikto!”
CLASSIC...thanks!
Here's a quote from her IMDB bio:
"In 1949, we stayed with one of my friends who had a book in which people were asked to write down their secret ambitions. Ronald Reagan wrote he'd like to be president. All those years ago!".However, in 1949, Reagan was still a flaming Democrat.
There’s no limit to what he can do. He could destroy the earth... If anything should happen to me you must go to Gort, you must say these words, “Klaatu barada nikto”, please repeat that.
It is interesting that you mentioned this. I have this on DVD and it is one of my fav. Christmas movies. Patricia Neal played Mrs Walton perfectly. An Emmy quality performance. I will always remember her for this role. A great actress. Prayers to her family and friends.
she wasn’t a raving beauty but boy she did have sex appeal.. the voice and the look in some of her scenes.. wow
She was one of my favorite actresses!
