Barack Obama and senior Democratic politicians are attempting to revive unpopular memories of George W Bush in a bid to undermine the resurgence of the Republicans ahead of this autumn's mid-terms.
The US President, who will this week travel to Texas his predecessor's heartland has repeatedly warned in recent days that Republicans do not have a "single idea" that differs from Mr Bush's policies.
Democrat members of Congress, who are returning to their states to campaign for November's elections, have been advised to remind voters of the alleged damage that Mr Bush's policies caused to the US economy.
Mr Bush left office more than 18 months ago as one of the United States' least popular presidents with an approval rating of less than 30 per cent.
He has kept a low profile since stepping down. However, this may be about to change as his memoirs are due to be published just days after the mid-term elections in November.
Democrat strategists hope that details of the book will begin leaking in the run-up to polling day placing the Bush legacy as a central issue for voters.
The Republicans have called the strategy "desperate" and "sad" and claim it is designed to deflect attention from the growing concerns over Mr Obama's record.
The current President's approval rating is now below 50 percent amid voter concerns over the continuing high levels of American unemployment. Senior White House aides have publicly warned that they may lose control of the US Congress in the mid-terms as a result.

I'm betting more than 50% +1 of the voters would GLADLY have GW Bush back in the White House now...
Bush needs to go into the hospital for tests about 10/25; or the unmarried daughter needs to announce her engagement.
You may be correct. Hitler felt the same way. God help us if he gets re-elected.
By the way, Hitler was one of his heros.
The Dems controlled the Congress since Jan, 2007, but the recession did not begin until Dec. 2007, and the market did not crash until Sept. 2008, so the Dems clearly own this recession.
If instead of looking at how much debt was written by Republican or Dem Presidents, you look at how much was written by Republican or Dem Congresses, you suddenly realize that it’s the Congress that makes the difference, not the President. The vast bulk of the national debt was written by Dem Congresses, with some being written by split Congresses, and very little being written by GOP Congresses. If you exclude the prodigal GOP Congress under Bush, the message is even more stark.
You don’t have to go back any further than the Democrats taking control of Congress in 2006. They quickly shut down the Bush administration, and that’s when all of our troubles began happening.
We need to hammer that point home over and over again. Because it’s true, including playing the videos of Barney Frank shutting down the Bush administration’s attempts to reign in the bad loans before they imploded.
They know they've already lost the middle, and by a LOT.
They're just trying to fire up the base and PROTECT NORMALLY Democratic districts.
They are now playing DEFENSE ON THEIR HOME TURF.
With their back against the wall, they will get very, very nasty.
If it’s the knee jerk, moon bat, hate vote they are after why fool around with Bush? Why not just run directly against Cheney?
0bozo is the same, but does 10Xs more of it, except he lets taxes increase.
So, we have a Chocolate W who spends and taxes more. Lots more.
How's that Hope and Same working out for you?
If you plot the periods of Democrat and Republican control of Congress against historical unemployment and stock market charts you will see some very interesting correlations.
In January 1995, the Republicans took control of the House and Senate. Unemployment was at approximately 6.25%. The Dow Jones Industrial Index was at approximately 3,800.
The Republicans controlled both houses of Congress until the end of 2000. During the period from January 1995 to December 2000, unemployment dropped from 6.25% to approximately 3.75%. During the same period, the Dow rose from 3,800 to over 10,600.
From January 2001 until the end of 2002, the Democrats either controlled the Senate or it was split 50/50 between the parties. During this period, unemployment climbed from 3.75% to approximately 6.5%. During the same period, the Dow dropped from 10,600 to 8,300.
From January 2003 until the end of 2006, the Republicans again controlled both houses of Congress. During this period, unemployment dropped from 6.5% to just over 4%. During the same period, the Dow rose from 8,300 to 12,300.
In November 2006, the Democrats took control of both houses of Congress. In the same month, unemployment was at 4.3% and the DOW was over 12,500. Since then, the Democrats have continuously held control of Congress. Unemployment has continuously climbed and the Dow plummeted.
Imagine what the MSM would say if there were such a perfect correlation between CO2 and global temperatures?
I hope the GOP brings up Bush as well. After all, when Bush was president, PEOPLE HAD JOBS!
There is HUGE buyers remorse in America. Americans now look back on the Bush days and say to themselves, “Gee now that I look at it, it was not so bad.”. Especially compared to the results of the current WH and congress.
Ever since Obama took office, the democrats have shut down investigation after investigation. I suspect there is some strategy behing the Rangel and Waters thing as well.
Obama=worst unemployment in 80 years.
Not only nasty, but quite amusing to watch as long as we remember how dangerous a cornered rat can be.
The infantiles need to point the finger because they are void of resposibility. There’s no one around to blame

The all-out attack on all Energy production was the one of the first orders of business for the Pelosi/Reid regime. It was not ideological, it was to purposely bring the economy to its knees.
The problem with this stratedgy is that most Americans still rely on the “LEFT STREAM MEDIA” as their sources of information . HUGO COURIC, CHE LETTERMAN, and the N.Y. Times propaganda complex will due their duties as “MAOIST SOLDIERS” and start the drumbeat. It will be non-stop “Blame Bush for everything Bad” until November ! And some will be turned .
About that $4 gas.
My former republican congressman spent his summer vacation sleeping in his Washington DC office so he could go back down to a nearly empty house floor every day and demand that speaker Pelosi call congress into session to deal with energy policy.
Nancy stayed out on vacation.
