The president decided to pass up the Boy Scouts of America's 100th Anniversary in order to make an "historic" appearance on ABC's "The View."
Despite the fact that the Jamboree was just a hop, skip, and a jump from the White House at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia, the president sent a recorded message instead of showing up himself.
The reaction of the Boy Scouts to the video tells the story ...
Never was a Boy Scout myself but I understand that the Jamboree means a lot to those in attendance. And the Boy Scouts have meant a lot to America over these last 100 years, developing boys into fine men with a clear idea of right and wrong, and the satisfaction of accomplishing goals that point the way to a successful, happy life.
But I guess he would rather hobnob with celebrities like Whoppi Goldberg and Barbara Walters. I think it demonstrates where this president's priorities lie.
He is NOW signing them. He DIDN'T sign them from inauguration until late this Spring.
The standard form of Eagle Scout certificate was changed during that period because the BSA couldn't get authorization to use his signature.
You don't have to believe me . . . but I have several Eagle Scouts who earned the rank during that period who will be happy to show you their certificate WITHOUT the President's signature.
That's been 'cleared up' and his signature now appears on Eagle Scout certificates.
It is true that for the first fifteen months or so after President Obama was inaugurated, the White House never 'authorized' his signature on certificates for Eagle Scouts (or Quartermaster or, presumably, Silver Awards for Venturing).
That changed in late spring or early summer of this year when his signature was added. Scouts earning the rank of Eagle BEFORE that time had a blank above President Obama's signature.
However, he's NOT the first President to do this.
President Clinton didn't sign certificates for quite a while after taking office . . . and when he agreed to sign them, the White House 'requested' that the standard certificate be changed so that it could be signed not only by the President of the U.S. (the honorary President of the BSA), but also by Hillary Clinton. Yep.
Just make sure you’re west of I-35, north of the border counties, and an hour away from Austin and you should be good!
I agree. Eliz looks OK, but her dress is more casual.
The Scouts know that Obama doesn’t give a damn about them. He couldn’t scrape himself off his skinny a$$ and visit them in person....I am so disgusted with that man.
yes. All styles of clothing are nice. It’s just that some are more appropriate than others when it comes to certain events. Dressing used to be according to the occasion. Not so much anymore. It was also a sign of RESPECT.
Yeah, people seem to think etiquette is whatever they want it to be, rather than established rules and protocols. Must be a result of our feel-good, anything-goes society. Enough to make Letitia Baldrige cringe.
Yes. Dress respectfully in church and at weddings. Some of the dresses I see in weddings to me are out and out disrespectful to all in attendance. It’s all whatever makes one feel good as you said. A lost art for so many in how to act, behave and dress.
I am sure it’s autopen. It would be difficult to sign those forms and keep up with his scorecard on the golf course.
FWIW, my son and most of his scout friends plan to get their Eagle rank in January 2013.
My point was just that he is “signing” them now. My scout and some of his friends plan to finish their Eagle requirements in January 2013. They are hoping for change. Too bad they will be too young to vote.
