It used to be that appealing to patriotism was the last refuge of a scoundrel, now it is charging racism--first, last and always.
Jim Kennedy, a former White House spokesman for President Bill Clinton, has accused critics of First Lady Michelle Obama's luxurious Spanish vacation of doing so because she is a black woman.
Specifically, Kennedy falsely accuses former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin of being ready to "pour some gasoline" on the 'racist' criticism of Michelle Obama, even though Palin has apparently not made any comment on the trip.
In an article posted at the Huffington Post this morning, Kennedy says:
Simply put, there are some in this country who cannot stand the idea of women and people of color in positions of power, and there are cynical power mongers who don't mind pushing their buttons to keep the political pot boiling...
Not all the criticism of the First Lady's trip is malevolent, you do not have to travel far into the depths of the conservative blogosphere to find evidence of extremely sexist and racist commentary about it.
... The Drudge Report will keep lighting the match, Rush Limbaugh will keep fanning the flames, and maybe Sarah Palin will pour some gasoline ("Come to Alaska, Michelle!")...
Kennedy compares the reaction to Michelle Obama's self-indulgent travels with those of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and then First Lady Hillary Clinton to make his point of sexism. He neglects to point out that abuse of government travel has led to the ouster of high ranking white male White House officials of both parties in recent decades, nor does he address the criticism that white male President Bill Clinton received for his enormous traveling contingent on his last trip to Africa as president.
In addition to serving as a White House spokesman for Bill Clinton, Kennedy also served as a spokesman for then Vice President Gore and his 2000 presidential campign and when Hillary Clinton was a senator from New York.
With his accusation that Sarah Palin is a racist, the former Clinton spokesman is bringing the controversy over Obama's trip to a new level.
How is comparing her to a French queen racist?

We need to begin passive resistance to these clowns. Cancel subscriptions. Identify board members and send them communication complaining about shabby reporting and partisan bias. Embarrass the crap out of anyone involved in the organization. Make them understand that there are political and social costs to spouting this garbage. We MUST organize against this tyranny and push back like they have been pushing on us since the 1960s...
