The Republican National Committee is entering the fall election season with dire financial problems and, to an unprecedented degree, will be forced to rely on outside groups to fund activities traditionally paid for by the national party.
While embattled RNC Chairman Michael Steele and a top aide sought to use the partys summer meeting here to publicly put the best face on the cash shortage, senior Republicans expressed grave concern behind the scenes that their fundraising deficiencies may be the difference between a good election year and a great one.
With $11 million on hand at the end of June and about $2 million in reported debt the RNCs paid get-out-the-vote (GOTV) effort will be limited to just targeted House races, POLITICO has learned.
And the committee is only going to be able to spend money on those relatively inexpensive House races, thanks to a $10 million line of credit that was approved at the meeting here. Until then, said one incredulous Republican, there was no money available for paid GOTV activities like mailers and automated phone calls.
Even with the line of credit, though, the party cant afford to assist their many gubernatorial and Senate candidates with any dollars for paid voter contact and will have to effectively outsource that operation.

This is very ominous. In some races, the ‘Rat Party cash walls may be too high for Republican candidates to climb.
They wish!
All they have to do is admit they are eat up with RINO's,,and what they are going to do about it..... I would send bucks,, but I won't hold my breath.......
Anybody tell them there is a recession happpening. The DNC will steal theirs from union pension funds, but can you buy that many votes?
Pray for America
Politico spinning for the Obama cult. Expect more psych-ops from the Kenyan’s followers from now until November.
are most people so stupid as to be swayed by a tv commerical????? what does money have to do with winning an election?
Post your platform online,, and area newspapers, ONE TIME,, how expensive is that????
I have basically said that when I get a fund-raising call.
Exactly.....just because the money isn’t going to the RNC doesn’t mean money isn’t or won’t be forthcoming...but, hey....they can keep drinking the koolaid!
This election cycle is about voter anger and not party war chests. Voters are TICKED. All the Dem party commercials in the world won’t change that.
Sorry for your cash flow problems RNC. But I can’t help. I dontate directly to candidates whose political views most closely parallel mine. I feel this is the most efficient way to spend my political dollars.
I lose that control if I give to y’all. Sorry.
The only thing that might save the democrat socialists is the animosity conservatives have for republicans. There are less than a half dozen republicans that haven’t been called RINO by someone here.
The homosexuals at the Politico are hysterical and the election is still 3 months away.
To reach Indy’s and dissatisfied Dems....it does help to do radio and TV....it’s THEIR medium.....a 30 sec radio ad can cost upwards of $1000 for production and running...
Good point. The voters should be watching the news to learn that the commie ‘RATS are destroying the country. Political ads on TV are nothing but a joke. Must pee TV!
The”RATS” have UNION CASH!
RIGHT ON!ALL RINOS,OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
winner winner chicken dinner. Yes give it to the candidate. The RNC should be virtualized and move what staff remains to the geographic center of America which is near Mexico Missouri
All the money in the world doesn’t mean a thing if the people don’t like you.
My congresscoward is doing almost all of his fundraising around the edges of the district where he can pull it from outside. Lord knows he isn’t getting it here.
