So youre watching a funny film and youre thinking to yourself, Why arent there more great comedies like this? Then All of a sudden there is an unwanted Bush is stupid joke that no one asked for. You just went from amused to not being able to wait to tell your friends that there is yet another Hollywood film that is unable to curb unnecessary politics for 100 minutes.
Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, two of the comedic powerhouses of the last decade; have made some great films that have been tarnished by unnecessary political editorializing. The opening of McKays Step Brothers took a cheap shot at then-President George W. Bush (who Ferrell often mocks). Also, Anchorman told us Brick (played by Steve Carell), who was the most idiotic character in the film, took a job in the Bush administration. Ferrell even starred in the Bush hit piece, Youre Welcome America, pushed hard by HBO.
Although we know Ferrell and McKay are leftists, they are fully capable of bringing us good material without the annoying, childish slant. Today Ferrell and McKays new film, The Other Guys, opens and word on the street is that McKay has upped his game in the form of blatant liberal preaching. Conservative film critic Kyle Smith asserts that the politics ultimately ruin an otherwise funny film:

Why even bother going to the movies?
We need a new team of funny men—Abbott and Costello, Hope and Crosby, The Marx Bothers, Heck I would settle for Martin and Lewis.
Will Ferrell is a no-talent loser. His movies all suck. I’m sure this one will be as successful as “Land of the Lost.”
The leading man from the clunkers “Bewitched”, “Land of the Lost” gets yet another leading role.
I have to admit, I did like Elf. “I like smiling..smiling’s my favorite!”

I watched Will Ferrell on the Jimmy Fallon show the other night (no, I don't regularly watch Fallon, Leno, etc.). It was a TOTAL waste of my time. They both appeared to be drunk, and spent most of the "interview" giggling about stupid stuff. I had no idea what they were talking about - they were like two dopey teenagers high on something. I couldn't change the channel fast enough.
“She who must be obeyed” and I were considering going to this movie this weekend. Tnx for the warning.
We’ll do something else.
It appears that the only talent left in Hollywood is Pixar.
Ferrell is a sicko.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

I see no reason to change my decision to never see that stupid Will Ferrell in a movie again.
And not just because of politics.
Who is will farrell, and why should I care what he has to say about anything? I think I’ll save the $25.

Omigosh, I would rather have root canal than see that awful Elf again. Never could figure out why anyone thought it was funny.
But... different strokes.
This movie will bomb miserably. I did love Kicking and Screaming.
I have never understood the bankability of Ferrell. To me, he's simply not funny. Period.
Thanks for the reminder. Will avoid it.
Never mind the political leanings, there are funnier guys acting today than Will Ferrell. I loved his Ron Burgundy character and the “More Cowbell” skit, but he’s done.
