BROOKSVILLE - Jason Sager doesn't have to look at someone else's pictures of the Twin Towers attack in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001. {cut}
But around January 2003, he also joined a group of about a hundred other young like-minded activists and became a member of the New York chapter of Protest Warrior, often dressing up as communist revolutionary Che Guevara.
Protest Warrior was a satirical, covert group who crashed anti-war and anti-George Bush protest events and blended in with the group. Members would hold up mock signs purporting to espouse the same liberal views.
And it was his one-year involvement with this unorthodox movement that has raised eyebrows from the chairmen of the local Republican and Democratic parties.
"I think Mr. Sager has some explaining to do to the electorate," said Blaise Ingoglia, chairman of the Republican Party of Hernando County.
Ingoglia said he is concerned Sager's past life as a New York City Protest Warrior will give the Democrats more ammunition in the election and this 5th Congressional seat is a seat the Republicans cannot lose.
Ingoglia said he had not heard about Protest Warrior until being told by a Hernando Today reporter Friday. He said he did some quick research and visited some Internet sites and the messages he found are highly disturbing.
"Jason Sager claims this was supposed to be satirical (but) I can't see how dressing up as a communist revolutionary, who murdered hundreds of people, is funny in any way, shape or form," Ingoglia said.
Perhaps because of his black wavy hair and facial features, Sager often dressed up as Argentine Marxist revolutionary Guverra and joined his fellow Warriors, who would don wigs and wardrobes depending on the rally to impersonate revolutionaries Fidel Castro or Vladimir Lenin.

Why didn't this guy just shut up?
If a Democrat running for office protested with a "Bush is Hitler" sign, you wouldn't hear any Democrat chairman talking about it.
Besides, is this chairman just dense or what? Didn't he see why he put these costumes on and looked the way he did when he protested? He put them on to show that the protesters on the left, the ones who would vote for the Democrat in the race, embraced these communists. Not one lefty protester kicked him out of their Bush bashing get-togethers.
I'm pretty sure that Mr. Sagar can take care of himself, since he has more guts than any of those usual milquetoast, speak like a whimp, Republican candidates.
Posing as leftist media, they interview the leftists who openly reveal the hatred and insanity that we know is in their black little hearts. PW members carry signs that read like a leftist sign, until you read the smaller print, i.e. "WAR NEVER SOLVED ANYTHING, except slavery, naziism, fascism" etc.
I have a lot of respect for PW, but it is no surprise that the hidebound Republican Party wouldn't get it.
Do yourself a favor and take the time to look them up before you decry them on a site like FR.
Impersonating a Communist is a high crime to a Leftist.
oops — I means to say how stupid is tha guy who says that this form of satire is not funny Satire is not supposed to be comedy. Thats why its called satire and not comedy.
No, because they fit right in with the leftists.
I imagine Blaise Ingoglia is backing Nugent - as is the poster who started this thread.
But coming to FR to bash a candidate for being part of Protest Warrior is not the brightest move going.
can be funny, yes, but it’s not being funny doesn’t disqualify it -— Orwell’s “animal Farm” isn’t funny, but it is satire. As is “Gulliver’s Travels”, hundreds of others.
A ping to one of the founders of Protest Warriors DC—concretebob. I LOVE the PW signs and have emulated them occasionally. The “Free Gaza” group at the Independence Hall Visitors Center sometimes has an “add on” yelling “Free Gaza? Then Destroy Hamas! Go IDF!” Great fun.
I personally called the Hernando Today Reporter, Michael Bates, to ask about the accuracy of his information. He said that he stands behind it 100%, and that Jasons camp had no problems with it.
This is serious! Freedom of Speech applies to all Americans even if we do not agree with the message. How can a self-proclaimed 'constitutional scholar, and a self-proclaimed constitutional constructionist engage in this type of behavior in his earlier years, and still continue to defend these actions at age 36 while running for U. S. House of Representatives? We complain about ACORN, the union thugs, Nancy Pelosi, Obama, and those left-wing organizations, like Moveon.org, that try to ridicule Americans into silence Are we now condoning double standards?
I lived in New York, decades before and years after 9/11, and I do not remember, at least not in the same light, these 'tumultuous times' Jason Sager refers to. We do not agree that 'the tactics have changed but the intent is the same.' Very few groups, if any, were talking about the founding principles, the Constitution, or the Declaration of Independence in New York after 9/11. The main topics of discussions were President Bush, the War on Terror, our military, the national debt, Osama Bin Laden, Al Qaeda, the possibility of more terrorist attacks, and Iraq. And, we also disagree with Jason's remark that it 'would be difficult for someone sitting in Brooksville or Spring Hill to understand these guerilla political tactics. That statement sounds very condescending, and insulting to the residents of these fine communities because most Americans, regardless of where they reside, would still find these actions to be offensive, immature, risque, and unacceptable. We also do not see any similarities - zip, zilch, nada - between the Protest Warrior's and the Tea Party movement! I guess this was another one of Jason's satirical moments. Regardless, we do not find this funny!
The Citrus County Tea Party Patriots does not endorse candidates. However, we do provide motivation and encouragement to those that seek it - providing they embrace our Tea Party platform. We believe that even though Jason has the Tea Party message, it principally lacks the credibility factor that is equally important for our movement to be successful. The Tea Party message is the lifeblood and fuel of our movement and it cannot be compromised. We sincerely hope that after reading the following article you agree with our decision not to support Jason Sager during the primary election.

Protest Warriors’ signs were not meant to be funny.
They were meant to bite. And bite, they did.
The signs were always accurate and never posted anything that was not conservative. (If you actually read the whole sign)
On the other hand, the infiltrators did not expose themselves on their signs nor did they have a complete statement that was anything like Protest Warrior’s signs or statements.
What the infiltrators seek to do is to discredit the real protests by misleading their own position and paint a color other than the truth.
The difference is the truth and full exposure.
It took a lot of guts to do what Protest Warrior does and so far, they have not been ejected or asked to leave.
In fact, many of the real protesters had signs and banners that go farther than Protest Warrior faints going.
Somebody needs to do their homework.
Edna Mattos needs to get a grip.
Hey, Edna - read that very first amendment in the Bill of Rights and get back to me, if you are going to raise Constitutional issues.
It's kinda scary that someone with such a feeble grasp of the Constitution could reach a position of leadership in a Tea Party organization.
Glad to see you were open to a differing viewpoint here.
We complain about ACORN, the union thugs, Nancy Pelosi, Obama, and those left-wing organizations, like Moveon.org, that try to ridicule Americans into silence Are we now condoning double standards?
So now she is comparing Protest Warrior's satirical signs to UNION THUGS?
I disagree completely...
Protest Warrior actions were and are brilliant. Have you actually seen some of their “protest signs?” They’ve been posted here on FR many times in the past.
Mark
Right. Now don’t let it happen again :-)
