Last night, the elected officers of the Greenville County Republican Party presented a "Resolution of Rebuke of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham" to the Greenville County GOP's Executive Committee. By a vote of 61-2, the Executive Committee approved the Resolution.
The Greenville County GOP Executive Commitee is made up of individuals from across Greenville County who are elected at the precinct level. On the Executive Committee, every precinct has one vote.
Below is the Resolution as it was approved:
WHEREAS, United States Senator Lindsey Graham has cast votes in the United States Senate in favor of TARP, which all but guarantees an increase in the national debt and expansion of the federal government.
WHEREAS, Senator Graham has voted in favor of two of President Obama's nominees to the United States Supreme Court, who possess questionable qualifications and very liberal beliefs that are contrary to the United States Constitution.
WHEREAS, Senator Graham has promoted amnesty for illegal aliens, and continues to promote this premise under the guise of "Comprehensive Immigration Reform".
WHEREAS, by these and other votes, Senator Graham has abandoned the Republican platform:
AND, WHEREAS, both locally and nationally, Senator Graham has repeatedly demonstrated contempt and arrogance towards those members of the Republican Party who support these core Republican beliefs;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Greenville County Republican Party hereby issues this formal rebuke of Senator Graham for his cooperation and support of President Obama and the Democratic Party's liberal agenda for the United States.
FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED that Senator Graham will no longer be invited to attend and participate in meetings or other events sponsored by the Greenville County Republican Party.
RESOLVED this 2nd day of August 2010 at the regularly scheduled meeting of the Greenville County Republican Party Executive Committee.
This resolution passed as proposed, without amendment, by a vote of 61-2.
He needs replacing for sure.
He’s civil, but not what we need to help this country anymore.
I skipped this meeting, but I would have voted with the majority had I been there.
Rebuke him the hell out of office!! Grahamnesty is an idiot!!
Can we fix the title? I cut and pasted it from the email, and that infernal escape code at the end got past me before I noticed....
Rebuke, Recall, Replace his Rino ass!
Civil?
After he called us "bigots" and said for us "loud people" to "shut up"?
In our dreams, apparently. We did try in '08. (I voted for Conley!) But Lindsey is obviously useful to somebody, and apparently that is enough to keep him in his seat. Apparently popular support, or even the support of his own party, is optional.
Graham to Greenville Republicans: Kiss it!
Let me correct myself then. His only attribute is his civil TONE.
He’s still has to go IMO.
“Rebuke him the hell out of office!! Grahamnesty is an idiot!!”
I just love it when the founder of the FR website talks like that, especially when there is so much truth in the comment. Get him(Graham)the hell out! And, McCain, too!
If he can't do the right thing now, look for him to do a Spector later.
I just assumed it meant he'd been rebuked 8206 times before.
He makes me want to rebuke alright... right on his shoes.
He makes me want to rebuke alright... right on his shoes.
Since you’re from the area, tell me...am I correct in assuming this is a big deal? Greenville is the largest county in SC, and this censure follows on the heels of similar censures from Lexington county and Charleston county. I don’t recall hearing about other states censuring a sitting senator like this.
Don’t forget his appearance at Furman’s where he wanted to talk about how the Republicans need to understand that it can’t succeed just with “angry white people.”
RINO ping
Being that you appear to be a member of the SCGOP, I am not sure if you will know the answer to this question, but you appear to be the best person to ask.
When Graham ramps up his bid for reelection in 2014, can the SCGOP refuse to endorse him as their candidate and withhold funding for his race? Or, does your State Party Charter require support for the incumbent candidate?
Greenville is also the reddest county in SC.
I dont recall hearing about other states censuring a sitting senator like this.
Can't speak to that. But the fact that Graham is still in the Senate is a proof of the power of incumbency.
When he was elected, he was trailing clouds of glory for having been on the House management team that presented the articles of impeachment of Bubba to the US Senate. His own service in that same body has not been consistent with its promise.
