LAS VEGAS -- Goodman Law Group reports that Erik Scott was shot by police outside a busy Summerlin, Nevada Costco store July 10. Many questions surround the shooting of Scott, who was carrying a licensed concealed weapon in a holster when he was surprised by officers as he exited the building with his girlfriend and other customers. Five of the seven shots that felled him were fired into his back.
Ross Goodman, attorney for the family of Erik Scott is questioning the official sequence of events. Erik was a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point and had an MBA from Duke University. The case claims that if an educated, responsible, militarily-trained individual with a concealed weapons permit did not understand the instructions of the police, then any average citizen is at great risk of getting killed by police in a similar situation.
Much information regarding the incident has been withheld pending a coroner's inquest that was originally scheduled for September 3. The Clark County Coroner said the inquest was indefinitely postponed at the request of the District Attorney's office, which said additional witness statements are being gathered and surveillance videos are being reviewed by an out-of-state forensic laboratory.

this story is not going away no matter how long they draw it out. release the video and 911 calls and let the truth out.
You would think, with all the pocket video devices out there, somebody would have recorded the situation when a store is evacuated and police are all over the place.
If the video exonerated the police it would have already been released.
We will not see it until the jackboots invent a story that makes cold blooded killing justified.
Be sure they are working overtime on it....
The video will be grainy at best and severely intermittent in quality.
Goodman Law Group is LV Mayor Oscar Goodman’s.
The government and its agents jealously guard their monopoly on the use of deadly force to impose their will.
Wow! I didn't know that. So the Mayor's law firm will is representing the family of Eric Scott in the questioning of the police shooting. This does not seem good at all.
I suspect you are right. On the day of the shooting maybe not so much.

Unless, that is, it all went down VERY quickly... say while the crowd, as a whole, was still puzzled about the evacuation.

Or is it a Professional Hit ? Is this correct police protocol ?
I would feel much better if there were a standardized, well-monitored, method across the country for handling situation like this where there are questions about what happened, and what led up to it.
As it is, the very people who have a lot to gain from spinning the outcome of the probe are usually in total charge of it from the get-go. That's not good and starts out the whole process behind the curve.
Sadly the way they are handling this situation makes it very difficult to reserve judgment until their probe is complete.
That lawyer for the Scott family could ask the FBI for assistance to investigate possible Interstate evidence tampering/destruction.
PO #1: “PUT YOUR HANDS UP!”
PO #2: “GET ON THE FLOOR!”
PO #3: “FREEZE!”
PO #4: “DROP THAT BAG!”
PO #5: “HE’S GOT A GUN!”
No idea.
I guess if somebody is pointing a gun at the police and refuses to drop the weapon, when ordered to, it may be justified. But I don't think anybody is claiming he was pointing his weapon at anybody. It sounds like the police were shouting conflicting commands at the guy. One of the commands, according to some witnesses, was to "drop it". If he was not holding the gun when ordered to drop it then he may have started removing the gun from the holster in order to comply. Maybe that's when the cops started firing.
It could be that one or more of the cops is trigger happy. Once this cop started shooting the rest may have reacted out of panic. Because they refuse to release the video and audio we may never know.
“if an educated, responsible, militarily-trained individual with a concealed weapons permit did not understand the instructions of the police, then any average citizen is at great risk of getting killed by police in a similar situation.”
That is an excellent point. The question needs answered. Are we in jeopardy of being killed by the very police we give our authority to simply because they have procedures we cannot possibly follow?
Did the LV cops make all those commands? If so it sounds like a real cluster f###.
There have been some transcripts of police scanner recordings on the Internet for a couple of weeks now. You can find out the latest here: http://www.ktnv.com/Global/story.asp?S=12914417
