Sounds like a cover up that extents to the top of city government. The city may think letting the truth out will deter tourism but in reality hiding the facts will do be much worse.

You would think, with all the pocket video devices out there, somebody would have recorded the situation when a store is evacuated and police are all over the place.

If the video exonerated the police it would have already been released.

We will not see it until the jackboots invent a story that makes cold blooded killing justified.

Be sure they are working overtime on it....

The video will be grainy at best and severely intermittent in quality.

Five of the seven shots that felled him were fired into his back.

Is this correct police protocol ?

Or is it a Professional Hit ?

This story is just so disturbing on in so many ways. And it doesn't help when information is held back, for any reason. The only reason I can see to keep back info is so that if it's damaging to the side controlling its release they will have an opportunity to get their stories straight before discussing it.

I would feel much better if there were a standardized, well-monitored, method across the country for handling situation like this where there are questions about what happened, and what led up to it.

As it is, the very people who have a lot to gain from spinning the outcome of the probe are usually in total charge of it from the get-go. That's not good and starts out the whole process behind the curve.

Sadly the way they are handling this situation makes it very difficult to reserve judgment until their probe is complete.

If there has been a cover up, the undoing may be the sending of evidence across state lines. More so if that evidence may have been tampered.

That lawyer for the Scott family could ask the FBI for assistance to investigate possible Interstate evidence tampering/destruction.

PO #2: “GET ON THE FLOOR!”

PO #3: “FREEZE!”

PO #4: “DROP THAT BAG!”

PO #5: “HE’S GOT A GUN!”

“if an educated, responsible, militarily-trained individual with a concealed weapons permit did not understand the instructions of the police, then any average citizen is at great risk of getting killed by police in a similar situation.”

That is an excellent point. The question needs answered. Are we in jeopardy of being killed by the very police we give our authority to simply because they have procedures we cannot possibly follow?

.... officer-involved shootings should be reviewed by third parties.

Best second best piece of advice that could come out of this piece and it is scarcely mentioned here. This should be SOP in any jurisdiction in the US. Take it away from any DA or ADA that relies so heavily on cooperation with the local police in trying any case in a court and trying to get a conviction.

The DA must have their cooperation at all times. How long would that last if the PD thought the DA wasn't there for them when they needed them and vice-versa. Take any whiff of collusion out of the equation for ALL concerned. There should be an ample number non-police connected civilian trained professionals to comprise such a third party review setup.

Sure some police types will need to be involved but held to a minimum so as to not have any overt influence applied or insinuated on the review group. Unless and until some such method is instituted and utilized the public will not feel completely protected and represented if that is indeed possible but one thing is for certain; whenever a police agency/DA office is allowed to solely police itself the citizens will not feel secure nor will they be fairly protected against the inmature and/or corrupt element inside of any LEO organization.

What's it like to be "allegedly slain?"

I'm sure nobody is alleging that the man is dead. Nor is anybody alleging that a policeman did it.
